For a long time, I’ve been hearing that an app like this was coming so I was very excited to see that it has finally been released. Learning bird songs can be hard. It’s made harder when you hear a bird song you don’t know but can’t find the bird to identify it. With Song Sleuth, you’ll be able to figure out what bird might be singing even if you don’t see it!
All you have to do is take a recording of a bird song with your phone. Then, the app analyzes what you have recorded and gives you the three most likely options! It’s even able to suggest that it might be a human, three species of frogs and toads, and three squirrels and chipmunks! The app currently covers about 200 species in North America. It covers most longer sounds but can’t identify short chips and squeaks.
Currently, the app is only available in the iTunes App Store but, will be available on Android this fall. Learn more about getting the most out of the app from David Sibley by clicking here. The app is $9.99.
