Enjoy These Pictures of Ducks

The Wonderful World of Diving Ducks

Rob Ripma

This week, I am out on the East Coast with a couple of birding friends checking out all of the awesome photography opportunities that this part of the country has to offer. We’re in Cambridge, Maryland today and will be hitting a spot tomorrow morning that should offer us great opportunities to photograph Canvasback and American Wigeon!

From here, we will travel to Barnegat Light, New Jersey to photograph Harlequin Ducks, scoters, and Common Eiders! I can’t wait to share all of the awesome photos that I will take with everyone but for now, here are some pictures of ducks that I have taken over the last few years!

Pictures of Ducks: Bufflehead

I photographed this Bufflehead in Indiana a few years back. This is one of my favorite ducks and I just love this flight shot!

Pictures of Ducks: Lesser Scaup

Lesser Scaup are one of the common diving ducks in Indiana but I am more likely to find Greater Scaup along the East Coast.

Pictures of Ducks: Canvasback

This is currently the best photo of Canvasback that I have ever taken but I’m hoping to improve on my photos of this species tomorrow!

We have had a female Wood Duck here all winter with a flock of Mallards and Drakes. Her sound is fun to hear. We have been feeding them corn and she is right up there for her share.
