Thanks to everyone who submitted photos to our Backyard Photo Contest. We received thousands of photos and it’s always a tough job to narrow down the finalists. After two rounds of voting by our fabulous readers, we’ve crowned a winner! Congratulations to grand prize winner Joe Povenz of Grandville, Michigan! His photo of an indigo bunting stole the show. We’ll launch our next Backyard Photo Contest in mid-2014, so stay tuned for details.

Congrats on this most beautiful photograph! We don’t have blue birds where we live in SoCal so I am always fascinated with pics of this beautiful bird, yours is stunning!

I was delighted with the photo of the Indigo Bunting. They are a rarity in my area but when I lived in the country we had them almost every summer. Your photograph has captured the full beauty of this gorgeous feathered friend. Thank you for sharing this with us.

What a great shot Joe! I’m always excited when I see an indigo bunting as it only happens once or twice a summer. Congratulations. Chris from Hesperia, MI
