Conservation-minded Gifts for a Birder

Are you looking for the perfect conservation-minded gifts for a birder in your life? They are sure to love any of these suggestions!

Many birders would love to receive a gift this holiday season that contributes to the conservation of the birds that they love. When you are considering gifts for a birder this year, be sure to think about these conservation-minded ideas!

1. Donation to American Bird Conservancy (ABC) or a Local Bird Observatory

The ABC is an incredible organization that is conserving bird species throughout the Americas. From work to halt extinctions to helping to build a conservation ethic in local communities, they are one of the premier bird conservation organizations in the world. Learn more about ABC here.

If you prefer to keep your donation local, consider your local bird observatory. Most bird observatories are conducting critical research that helps us understand how we can best conserve declining species.

2. Give a Duck Stamp

The Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, or “Duck Stamp” as it’s widely known, is one of the best ways that you can support the United States’ amazing National Wildlife Refuge system. The stamp costs $15 and $0.98 of each $1.00 goes to conservation. The stamp has helped protect more the 5.5 million acres since its inception in the 1930s. You can learn more about the stamp on the Friends of Migratory Bird/Duck Stamp website. If possible, buy the stamp from a bird related organization so we can show how many birders support the stamp!

3. Birds & Beans Coffee

If you have a birder in your life that loves coffee, this is the gift for them! Birds & Beans is shade grown coffee that meets the high standards to receive the Bird-Friendly© label from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. This coffee tastes great, helps to protect critical forest habitat in Latin America, and saves both neo-tropical migrants and indigenous bird species. You can purchase Birds & Beans coffee on their website or in a store near you. If you have a Keurig, you can be even more environmentally friendly by purchasing a reusable filter that you can fill with Birds & Beans!
