Palmer’s penstemon While the sweet nectar of most penstemon species are relished by hummingbirds; I find it fascinating that in my yard; Palmer’s penstemon is frequented mostly by bumblebees. The hummers appear to have no interest in it. I attribute this phenomenon to the large bulbous flower of the Palmer’s. Its three sturdy lower lobes function as the perfect landing platform for these massive; dazzling insects.
