Attract Butterflies with Zin Master Seed Mix
This seed mix seems to include every kind of zinnia under the sun, and every one of them is made to attract butterflies!
I’ve always been fond of zinnias in the garden. They’re easy to start from seed, they come in a wide selection of colors and sizes, and butterflies adore them. When seed catalogs come, I usually want to buy nearly every single variety shown – which can add up fast when it comes to your wallet. Recently, though, I discovered an amazing and affordable zinnia seed mix that includes such a wide mixture of types, it’s like a zinnia lover’s dream!
This is Zin Master, a zinnia mix offered by Eden Brothers seed company. I’ve seen it used in several places here in Central Florida including the property of a local butterfly farmer friend, and the show that it puts on is simply amazing. It blooms from seed starting in six weeks, and is not picky about soil type. Simply pick a sunny place, prep the soil, spread the seed, and keep moist. The blooms will reward you in less than two months, and then just keep on coming.
Pollinators adore zinnias, and you’ll start to attract butterflies as soon as these brilliant flowers start blooming. The smaller butterflies like skippers and blues are often the first to stop by. Larger species like swallowtails, buckeyes, and monarchs will soon follow. The patch of zinnias shown here had literally hundreds of butterflies and other pollinators swarming all over it on a recent sunny summer afternoon.
Zin Master includes so many types of zinnias – single and double flowered, pale, vibrant, large small. They make good cut flowers if you’d like to bring some inside for vases, but don’t require dead-heading to thrive. Most of the species included will reseed themselves for years to come. As long as you give them plenty of sun and regular watering, they will take care of themselves.
You can buy Zin Master from the Eden Brothers website. It’s available in four sizes, from a quarter pound (which covers up to 500 sq feet) to a 10 pound sack that will cover half an acre! Small yard? Split a small bag with a friend and plant them in sunny containers. Zin Master is the mix you need to attract butterflies (and their friends) anywhere!
