This is a Mountain Chickadee photographed on a Christmas trip to Angel Fire; NM. I used a Canon Rebel Xsi; with a 55-250 mm lens. I noticed the birds eating snow; and decided they might like a saucer of freshwater; but they stuck with the snow anyway. This one is demonstrating a behavior I saw often on that trip. The Chickadees appear to take a big beakful of snow; then shake their heads to fling off the excess; before swallowing it.
