DIY Seed Packet Letters

Reuse those empty seed packets to create this easy garden decoration.

Wait—don’t throw away those empty seed packets! Reuse them to create this easy craft you can display indoors and out.

Materials:

  • Unfinished wood letters
  • Fine grit sandpaper and cloth
  • Empty seed packets
  • Decoupage glue
  • Flat paintbrush or sponge brush
  • Waterproof outdoor varnish (optional)
  • Scissors

Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1

You can usually find wood letters at your local craft store, but if you’re handy with a jigsaw, you can cut and trace your own. Once you have your letters, sand the edges and surfaces of the wood. Wipe off any sawdust with a cloth.

Step 2

Cut images out of seed packets to fit letters, and arrange in desired pattern. Then, brush the backs of the images with decoupage glue (like Mod Podge) and affix them to letters, layering as you go to create a collage effect. Let each layer dry before you move to the next.

Step 3

After you have all of your letters covered, add a final coat of decoupage glue to each letter to seal it. Then, let dry.

Step 4

If you plan on displaying your letters outdoors, make sure you use a decoupage medium that can go outside. Look for specific outdoor options on the label. Or, just seal the letters with an outdoor varnish and let dry.
