Dye-Your-Own Pretty Pastel Mason Jars for Spring
Color your world with these glass mason jars you can dye by hand at home.
What could be better for a perfectly pastel Easter than glass mason jars dyed by hand? Display your favorite cut flowers in these beauties or fill them with your favorite Easter chocolates and other goodies for a fantastic holiday gift. - Plastic squeeze bottle
- Glazing medium (we used Liquitex)*
- Liquid food color (mix primary colors for variety)
- Mason jars in desired quantity
- Waxed paper
- Straight pin
*You can substitute decoupage glue, but you may need to add a coat of clear varnish to avoid a sticky finish.
In a squeeze bottle, mix about 4 tablespoons of glazing medium with a few drops of food color. Gently swirl to blend to desired hue.
Hold jar horizontally; pour the mix over the outer sides of the jar, avoiding the screw threads and rotating until the jar is covered.
Break any bubbles with a straight pin.
Set the jar upright on waxed paper to dry. Periodically wipe off excess glazing medium from the jar bottom with a paper towel.
Note: The color is permanent, but the jars are not dishwasher-safe.
