Easy Winter Container Garden Arrangement

Winter doesn’t mean your front porch containers have to be empty! Add a few dried stems and berries to create a stunning winter container garden.
Barb Agnew from Milwaukee, Wisconsin made these festive winter container gardens to adorn an entryway and greet guests in the chilly months. Barb believes in giving twigs and branches a new life by incorporating them into container arrangements. She uses those trimmed from trees and even ones discarded at the curb or town dump. You can make them too, in three easy steps!
Materials:
- Pot (concrete, fiberglass, metal or other kind that will not crack in freezing temperatures)
- Floral foam
- Pruning shears
- Assorted stems, twigs, berries (shown: cedar, fir, assorted evergreens, dried artemisia, juniper and berries)
Step-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1
Use floral foam inside the pot to keep it light and movable. It’s easy to push twigs and branches into the foam, and any rearranging is also easy.

Step 2
Arrange different twigs in your hands to see what looks good together. Once you decide what you like, insert it into the floral foam in the pot.

Step 3
Finish your container with the tallest twigs and branches. Fill it in with berry-laden branches or other colorful stems to finish the arrangement.
