Caterpillar Bowling Ball Art

Garden visitors will be bowled over by this very friendly bowling ball art. It makes a great doorstop, but also looks sweet nestled in a flower patch or herb garden. Try creating different bowling ball bugs, like a ladybug or bumblebee.

Materials:

  • Printer (optional)
  • Bowling ball
  • Medium or fine grit sandpaper
  • Spray paint primer
  • Spray paint
  • Chalk
  • Acrylic craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Exterior-grade spray varnish

Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1

Choose which bug you’ll be painting on your bowling ball. It may be helpful to print out an image of it for later reference.

Step 2

Sand your bowling ball to rough up the surface. Wipe the ball with a clean, soft cloth afterwards to remove any dust.

Step 3

Prime your ball. Once dry, spray paint the ball using the dominant color in your design. Let dry.

Step 4

Sketch bug design onto the ball using chalk. Then, paint design.

Step 5

Spray ball with several coats of exterior-grade spray varnish. Let dry.
