How to Create a DIY Fall Leaf Wreath

Use woodsy finds to make a wall accent with an autumn flourish.
Use woodsy nature finds, like leaves, pinecones and acorns, to make a wall accent with an elegant autumn flourish. As an additional fall decor bonus, spray paint pinecones in glittery metallic shades before piling into a bowl, as we did here. And if you really have a pinecone surplus, turn any extra pinecones you don’t use in this craft into DIY firestarters.

Materials:
- Grapevine wire (double the length needed for desired wreath circumference)
- Wire cutter
- Leaves and other nature finds
- Paraffin wax (Note: Heat wax slowly on a low setting—it will splatter if it gets too hot. Protect counters with towels and waxed paper. If a cloudy residue forms on top of melted wax, reheat until clear.)
- Disposable pan
- Waxed paper
- Hot glue
Step-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1
Collect fallen leaves, berry sprays, branches, acorns and pinecones. If needed, gently dry leaves, then lay on paper towels, covering with additional paper towels. Place heavy books on top to press leaves overnight.
Step 2
Cut wax into small cubes with a serrated knife. Melt over low heat in a sturdy disposable pan. When wax is completely melted, remove pan to a heat-safe surface.
Step 3
Dip each leaf into wax, swiftly coating front and back. Hold by the stem, keeping fingers away from hot wax. Place leaves on waxed paper to set.
Step 4
Use grapevine wire to create wreath form, twisting the second length of wire around the first. Create a small loop of spare grapevine wire to hang wreath, and attach to top by twisting wire in place.
Step 5
Arrange leaves and other finds, securing to wreath using hot glue.
