Been at it since 9 am with a break for lunch.  I can say I accomplished something!  Mom’s garden weeded (easy so I started there), then went to work on pond garden.  I’m halfway around.  I’m cutting the yellow iris way back so I don’t have to do it in the spring.  I can see the pond now from my study window.  There are only 7 goldfish remaining.  Either they died, the heron got them or the raccoons went fishing.  Off to shower.  Then to my book and put my aching feet up.

Taking a break from garden work.  Had to mention that with the talk of praying mantis I came across one today.  What a surprise.

    Lovely photos, Stella and all.

Marge – I had a nice harvest of lettuce and cucumbers from the garden yesterday.  There are peppers there too and butternut squash needs to be picked.  On my list to do today or in coming days.  The peas I planted are a couple of inches high.  Don’t know if they will produce before winter hits.  Lots of garden work to do.

Good morning.  I’ll go back in time to pick some photos to share.  Can’t take any new ones right now my camera refuses to show what it is seeing on the screen.  Don’t know if that’s fixable or not.  Must find out next week.

    From last September:

I’m preparing to cut down most of these plants.  The goldfinches have stopped feeding on them this year.

I see the occasional praying mantis here.  Didn’t know they were a problem for hummers.  Interesting fact to know.

Good morning, Dave.  had to look way down the list to find the post and now I see why.  You opened up really early and no one else has commented.

Sherry- hope those computer woes are solved for you.  You too Stewart if that’s what’s keeping you off here.

I have great intentions for today and I hope I can meet them.  The gardens are a mess.  What with my focus on the wedding invites and travel to CA they have been neglected.  I know I have to pace myself and keep saying “I can’t do it all in a day”.   But I must at least make an attempt today.  I have a knee acting up, a left foot heel in pain, and now my right foot giving me a funny pain when I step on the ball of my foot.  Never ending.  I’m on my second cup of tea and just waiting for it to warm up a bit.

Want to hear another problem?  My camera has decided it won’t show on the screen what it sees.  It does take photos because I tried it but the function of showing it on the screen is gone.  I don’t know if it’s worth fixing but I’ll have to find out.  This camera has served me so well and has taken such great photos.

    Enough of my woes.

I hope when I check back here I’ll read up on what’s doing with you.

Marge – just saw your question on yesterday’s picture post.  We booked the vacation through English Lakeland Ramblers.  They made all the arrangements and provided the maps.  It was self guided though they also offer guided walks.

Brenda – yes we did send out the invites early.  Dan’s idea.  We need to know how many will be coming especially since we’ve invited more than the venue can hold.  William assures us that many of the GA and SC folks will not come.  It’s a daytime wedding and reception which means family on Sarah’s side can come for the day and drive back home.  Not the case for William’s family who live in GA.

I know others have posted photos of Butchert Gardens in BC.  We visited there in May of 2012.  I really enjoyed the Japanese lanterns.

    Caught in the act!

    And here’s my own lantern.

Enjoying all the photos everyone posts on here.

Good morning.  Thanks for opening again Dave.  Stewart didn’t say he was off to France this week but something must have happened to his computer.

Nice pictures of you making applesauce too.  I guess you can it for later.

I have a dentist appointment but first must clean up the kitchen.  I’ve only done cursory clean ups after dinner time and the stove and counter tops and sinks need it better than that.  Will probably go shopping after the dentist to  see what there is in the stores for fall and winter clothes.  Need an outfit for rehearsal dinner.

Dan has requested a black walnut cake for his birthday next week.  He still remembers the first one I ever made for his birthday and claims it was delicious.  I have no idea what recipe I followed but I did find three that I saved.  I’ll make it Saturday afternoon and take it along to my sister’s on Sunday so we will have others to eat it and help him celebrate.  His birthday is on Tuesday. #64.

Robbie – I’m glad you had a nice trip to your home state.  How did your knees do for that trip?

Snow – I hope the bosses listened to you.  I’m sure there are people in your town looking for work.

Marge – my sister and I are meeting in York to drive to Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery next Friday.  It’s the anniversary of my mom’s death 1 year ago.  No time to stop by you to visit.  Sorry.  Maybe another time.

Maxine – did I hear you say Indian Summer?  Temps warmed back up after the snow fall?  Was that one of the earliest snows for your area?

Tigsy – thanks for asking about the invites.  I’ll email a photo to you.  Don’t plan to post on the blog.

Brenda – are all the home interior projects done for this year?

Sherry – I think you have quite a baby there with that new dog. LOL  You’re getting less sleep than new moms.

Fred – safe travels.  I like to watch the Rick Steves show on PBS.  We used his guide to London and it was perfect.

Mary – you haven’t been telling us what you had for lunch or dinner lately.  I miss reading that.  Almost time for good hot soups, don’t you think?

Stewart – take care of yourself where ever you are.

Well, I think that does it from here for now.

Gayle – it was a walking vacation.  Our luggage was transported from town to town for us and we walked between 5 and 7 miles each day.  It was gorgeous and we didn’t get any rain the whole week.  Enjoyed the pubs too for lunch and dinner.  Breakfasts were served at the BnBs we stayed at.

Marge – Fred lives in Montana not Wisconsin.  I think he wrote he’s headed to Washington State on a trip.  It was Robbie who was Indiana whose brother from Wisconsin was visiting.  Easy to get mixed up here by who said what.

Going back to some photos I posted on my blog of the flowers in the Cotswolds.  We walked there in June, 50 miles!

The rest of the photos are here.

Good morning, Brenda and Dave.  Maybe Stewart’s computer called it quits on him finally.

Another chilly start to this day.  Autumn is here for sure.  The light has that cast to it.

Brenda, the wedding is actually three months and 12 days away!  Invitations are done.  Replacing the invitation paper was the thing to do when the first choice wouldn’t go through the printer with out getting messed up as it exited.  Going to a printing company was not what I wanted to do.  Easier to substitute the paper.  Once they were all printed I added heat embossing in gold on the top and bottom in a pattern that complimented the gold ribbon.  Looks very nice.  They are all going to the post office this morning.

Just spoke to Emily.  They have had the threat of frost up there.  She had to dig potatoes and sweet potatoes and bring in all her tomatoes and peppers.

I’m off to walk the lake with a stop first at the PO.

Check back with you all later.

Good morning.  I”m the early bird today.  Beat the sun up too.

Denise – nice to see you here again the other day.  I too have had something dig in the yard.  I think you’re right that it’s skunks though at first I thought possibly fox.  Fortunately they only dug on the north side of the house which we really can’t see from inside the house nor is it visible to guests arriving.

My garden work has definitely taken a back bench for now with wedding stuff going on.  I will get back to it probably in time to put the garden to bed for the fall.

Snow – I hope all is well for you now.

Stewart – sounds like you are getting ready to go back to France soon.  I see Wendy has a birthday coming up too.  Wish her early birthday greetings, please.

Need to make a nice cup of tea, pack Dan’s lunch then make breakfast.  I’ll check back to read up on who has followed me here.

Good evening.  I know it’s late.  I thought I’d logged in here but then never posted only read up to Snow’s posting.

What a day!  Started last night.  Our sleep number bed called it quits.  Dan’s side is completely flat.  Had to call the company because there’s a 20 year warranty and knew it hadn’t been 20 year since we purchased it.  Did buy it I found out from them in 98.  Anyway the pump that fills the chambers is kaput so they are sending another one.  Warranty covers 25% of replacement cost which is something better than nothing or buying a new mattress.  Meantime we are sleeping in Sarah’s bed which is full not queen.  Dan’s feet hit the end.

On top of that invitations didn’t go so well so decided against taking them to a Sir Speedy printer and returned the paper we had to the Annapolis Paper Source store (45 min drive).  Got replacement paper with no embossing border and saved some money.  They are now all printed as are rsvp cards and directions.  All to be done is now stamp on a filigree above and below and heat emboss with gold.  It actually is turning out better because that goes with the gold ribbon we have on the front.

I’m beat!  Will tackle the last step with those invites tomorrow.

    Sleep well friends.

Nice looking tomatoes, Rob.  Most of mine are done except for the Juliette and they just keep going.  Tomato blight got the others but I got a nice harvest before that really hit hard.

Here’s a harvest when we got back from Lake Champlain in August.
