Good morning. Wet, wet, wet here.  Has been raining off and on all night and not just lightly.  Downpours.  Now that it’s getting light I see the pond filled to the brim!  Tulip poplars are looking very sparse now.  Leaves have been knocked off with the rain and wind.  There’s one glorious hickory tree I can see to my left that is hanging on to its leaves still.

We had a wonderful lunch yesterday.  We met at a new restaurant, very health conscious menu.  I had a drink of coconut water, pineapple juice, orange juice and one other fruit which I can’t remember.  It was very refreshing.  For lunch I had a bison burger served with kale salad and butternut squash hash.  Yummy.  I didn’t think I’d be able to eat it all but I did.  Marie had a gluten free crust pizza divided between two toppings.  Since it was her birthday they gave us dessert for free and we chose the sorbet.  One was made with pomegranates the other with buckthorn.  Don’t know what that is but it was very tart.  The place has been just opened a month or more.  Marie said some of the decor came from the Container Store where she works. She was there when the manager came to make the purchases.

I’m staying put today because tomorrow a friend and I are headed down into DC to the Freer-Sackler Art Gallery (part of the Smithsonian).  There’s an exhibit on archaeology of Arabia that I want to see.

Sherry – congrats on the new car.  Is it new or used?  Will you trade in your truck? or sell it yourself?  Love to see a photo of Katie & Tucker together. (Am I remembering the new dog’s name correctly or is that only Brenda’s dear friend?)

Stewart – Will you be in France for the growing season?  When will the house go on the market?  Can you afford to keep it and rent it out for income?

Maxine – how’s the recovery going?

Kathy – is your strength returning more each day?

Here comes the pouring rain again.  How much more do we need?  I need groceries but don’t look forward to going out in this. Maybe by this afternoon.

Must make some phone calls and think what else I want to accomplish  on this day.

    Later!

    Snow here is the recipe.

2 T butter, 1/4 cup shallots diced, 1 T peeled gingerroot grated, 1/2 t cumin.  Sautee all these in the butter.

1 butternut squash peeled, seeded, chopped, 2 parsnips, peeled and chopped, 6 cups water, 1/2 t salt.  Add to above once they are cooked.  Bring to boil, reduce and cook covered until veg are very tender.  May remove cover for last 15 min.

Use immersion blender to puree.  Add 2 T honey and ground pepper to taste.

    Serve with sunflower seeds.

That’s what the recipe says.  I eyeball it as I go.  It is a very thick soup.

    Enjoy.

Good morning.  Not as cold as yesterday.  Beautiful blue here though.

Going to meet my youngest sister and take her to lunch.  She’s 54 today!  She lives in Va close to DC.

Nov newsletter to be delivered to printer this morning.  Mammoth issue this month – 12 pages.  What fun (not) that will be to collate on 11/4!  I already have 7 women who said they’d be here then to help.

Still in the pjs and bathrobe so must scoot to get ready.  I have stops to make before meeting Marie at 11:50.

Snow – if I remember I’ll send you a butternut squash soup recipe that we have loved. Has parsnips and ginger in it.

Good morning.  Cold one here.  36 this morning.  Dan asked if I wanted the heat on.  I’ll wait a bit.  He did light the pilot light in the gas fireplace so if I need the great room warmed can use that.

Laundry day plus spending a bit of time on this laptop putting finishing touches on newsletter.  Will attend the board meeting tonight to discuss options going forward for this newsletter.

Load of laundry done so must move.

Stewart – I second Sherry’s request for photos.

Brenda – not again.  What happened to Tom’s friend? did he come by? He could have lifted that for you.

Dave – I have a bunch of old irons.  I use then as door stops in the summer to hold doors open.  Sorry.  Not parting with any of them.

    Regards to all.

Good morning.  Chilly start to this day – in the 40s. Sun not up yet though sky is brightening.

Stewart – what a newsy post.  I was wondering why you weren’t just settling in with Graham.  Glad you got that worked out.  Thatched?  Is his roof thatched like this?

Sarah and William coming by after church today to stay through supper.  It’s so nice to have them close by.

Not much else going on here either.

    Take care friends.

Just in from doing some more winterizing work.  Hoses put away in the shed.  Snow shovels taken out and stored in the garage.  All the cushions from the screen porch are toted up to the attic and wicker chairs are piled up.  Now need to bring in the oak table we use out there.  It becomes my puzzle table for the fall and winter plus a backup for seating when we have lots of people here.

Got my meds and took one as soon as I got in the car.  Because I wasn’t taking it at the onset of the migraine it took two hours to work at eliminating the pain.  Some people know what their triggers are for migraines.  I have yet to figure that out.

Brenda between you and Fred we have quite a bit of knowledge here on birds!  WoW!

All you novel readers out there, here a recommendation for you:  Letters from Skye.  Lovely book.

Time to post some photos of the golden forest around here.  Look for them on my blog.

Good morning.  Off to the store.  I need my migraine prescription very badly.  Woke with one this morning.  Doctor sent prescription in on Thursday but I didn’t have a chance to get it yesterday.

    I’ll check back later.

I had to spend the afternoon waiting for Sears to put new tires on Dan’s car.  So on the way home I called in a Chinese carryout order: wonton soup with extra vegetables, chicken chow mien, and sesame chicken.

Wilderness – I often put some of those same things in my grilled cheese.  When I do I use the panini to grill them.  No need to try to flip.

Good morning.  Lovely blue sky day!  Makes the gold of the leaves really shine bright.  I took some photos yesterday and will have to post them soon.

Going no where today unless Dan calls to say that Sears has his tires in.  I have his car today in case that happens.  Today is a clean house day. Must start soon.  Been fooling with Nov issue of newsletter.  October’s has yet to arrive in my mailbox!  They are really treating it like the bulk mail we have paid for. LOL We were spoiled into thinking we could pay bulk mail rates and get first class delivery.

Sherry – good to hear of the smooth move.

Stewart -so Graham has chickens.  And there are fox where you live?

Dave – doing some Christmas shopping at the craft fair?

Brenda – I’m like that with photos I want of birds and critters.  By the time I get the camera they have moved on.

Got to get these bones moving.  House needs a good vacuuming.

Got a good report from the doctor.  Not to worry about hernia. Maybe a little tear there but so long as I have no discomfort he is not going to treat it.  Good!

Maxine posted on the update with in the past half hour.

Brenda – that bag was not meant to be lifted yet.

Robbie – have a nice camping out weekend.  Leaves are predominately gold here now except for oak and beech which are both still green.  Must post some more photos on the blog.

    Have a good evening.

Early start for this.  Thursday is another salad night.  Will pick salad greens and snow peas from the garden, maybe a zucchini too.  Lots of dressing choices.  I’m leaning toward poppy seed tonight.

Your meatloaf sounds good for a cool fall night.

Good morning all that precede and follow me here.  Overcast skies.  Buckets of rain yesterday afternoon. Pond is full to the brim.  Leaves are down matted on the lawn.  Too wet to rake for now.  I heard a tree fall during the storm but have no idea where that is.

I have my last (hopefully) doctor’s appointment for the month.  Hopeful because I hope that he says that the hernia is no problem.  If he says it is a problem I may have other appointments.  Squeeze test went okay yesterday but am sore from it today.

Going Christmas shopping after the appointment at Kohl’s.  Might as well get it started.

Good to hear that Maxine is out of hospital.  Take care of yourself, Maxine!

Kathy – good to have you back here.  How did the birthday dinner go for your sister?  Is the life vest as bulky as a bullet proof vest?

Stewart – how did you like the 55+ housing you saw?

Marge = didn’t realize you had moved to a 55+.  Brand new you said?  All on one floor?

Still in my pjs.  I think I’ll have a bit of breakfast before showering.

Sherry – hope moving day goes well.

Robbie – did you get tons of rain too?

    See ya later.

Homemade chicken soup here with grilled cheese sandwiches.  Waiting on Dan.  Retirement session tonight which brings him home late.  A rainy night – good for soup and sandwiches.
