The bright colors around here are in the trees.  Lovely flowers still blooming in so many of your yards.  I can only dream now.

Good morning.  Sun up.  High puffy clouds.  Not to be as warm as yesterday or the day before.  Cold weather coming this way too.

My, lots of traffic here at the Potting Shed already this morning!  People getting up and out early.  Getting ready for the time change?  I like the mornings after the time change but not the evenings.

Yesterday before the afternoon rain came I raked leaves and covered several of the raised beds with a layer.  I still have a zucchini flowering out there.  The peas too have been producing profusely so we had them in a stir fry last night.  I picked all the zucchini because with colder temps a coming that will do that plant in.  I filled both compost bins with leaves and then raked the back into the beds that run across the edge of the glen.

Next spring I will have some cheap labor to help me with mulching.  Our church had an auction and I purchased 2 hours of yard work offered by one young man and 3 hours from a father/son combo.  Much cheaper than having the mower guys do it.

Dave – what brought on the Henry VIII song?  I remember that one too.  When we were in England we saw the grave of his last wife who survived him and at the Tower of London we saw the site of where his second wife Anne Bolelyn was beheaded.

Fred – don’t get roped into the presidency.  Your plate is much too full already.

Maxine – great shopping trip you had.  I read on the “what’s for supper” thread of your purchases. Must be a famous mall in Canada as Sherry knows of it, too.

Snow – good luck with the extraction.

Kathy – we live close to major RR tracks that take coal to Baltimore harbor.  I’ve been at one of the crossings when the train came to a stop blocking passage.  I had an appointment to get to so I thought I’ll give it 5 minutes then take the long way around.  Well at that moment it started again. This track goes through Ellicott City where the first RR traveled to from Baltimore and that famous race between train and horse took place.  It’s also the site of a tragic accident a couple of years ago when two young women were sitting on the RR bridge and the coal cars derailed and they were buried in coal and killed.

Looks like Sarah and William have an apartment.  It’s newly renovated basement of a duplex just over the MD/DC line in DC.  It’s 1+ miles walk to William’s office and close to subway lines.  It was the one I went with Sarah to view on Saturday and the only one they looked at.  It’s really a nice place and she will have access to backyard for a garden.  I think all that’s left is the credit check which should be fine.

Brenda – thanks for the nice compliment on my blog.

Sitting here still in my pjs.  Tea has gotten cold. Need to figure out what I’m doing today and when.  Let me first see what the thread is now at Veggie gardening.

    Bye.

Charlene, my Autumn joy went through those stages of color too.  Now though they are leafless as the deer have eaten the leaves off.

Good for you, Maxine!  You’ve made a good recovery.  Enjoy the shopping trip.

    Robbie – here’s my blog.

Just stopped over at Veg Gardening.  There’s a thread there complaining about how dead it is.  We really could have livened that one up if they had allowed us to park ourselves there from the start.

When they were planning all the moves and closing down the site where ABY folks used to gather we asked to be located here in Veggie gardening.  Powers to be said no go, so our renamed group “The Potting Shed” gathers in Garden Chat.   We could have kept life going on this site since we have a daily thread going.

I tried getting things going with What’s Up but besides Maxine (Albertagran), Wilderness, Steve, and Marge there were not many interested in veg gardening items.

Gayle – thanks for sharing that video.  I had know idea of the magnitude of the explosion.  I heard a brief mention of it on the news on NPR this morning.  How sad.  The video captured too the children’s reactions to such a sad event.

Good morning.  Up early for me.  Got up with 6 o’clock alarm instead of staying in bed till 7.  It’s still very dark out there.   Take that back.  There’s a glow of magenta in the southeast sky.  Like a volcano brewing on the horizon.

It’s to get colder here too and I think there’s rain the forecast for today.  I have a wide variety of things on my list but no hurry with any of them.  I’m staying put today.

Kathy – I’m impressed that you got to see the last run of a train.  Too bad the auto has taken over so much.  Train travel is less stressful.  I know I enjoy the train trip to NH if I go there by myself.

Sherry – too bad for the wait on the new car.  Maybe the allergic reaction was the nyquil.

Tigsy – wondered where you’ve been.

I had a nice trip in to DC.  Temps were wonderful so we got sandwiches at the Smithsonian Castle and took them out to the garden there. So many museums but we focused only on two that are connected – the Freer-Sackler.  Both given by very rich men who collected Asian art.  The Sackler is mostly underground.  I did take photos which I will post later.  I posted train photos on the photo thread today.

Must make Dan’s lunch and think about what’s for breakfast.

    See ya.

Hmm.. funny that my calendar says today is Wednesday, Steve!

We went on a train trip on Sunday with Western MD Scenic Railroad.  Cumberland to Frostburg and return.

Here’s the train coming into the station:

It’s a reconditioned steam locomotive.  View of it as we round the bend.

Some great sights though leaves were past peak.

    more pics on the blog

We just finished. Whole grain angel hair pasta, homemade sauce from my freezer, Italian chicken sausages with fried onions, a mix of zucchini and snow peas steamed.  That’s the last of the zucchini from the garden this year.  There are more snow peas that need picking and some may even need shelling, it’s been awhile.

Maxine – good to see you out and around.

Good morning. Beautiful sunrise here today.  All lovely pinks.

Heading to DC in a bit.  This was the trip that was to happen last week.  Will be a nice outing with good friend.

Stewart – missed the book about men’s manners. Did you save it or give it away?

Snow – what brings your son through?  Traveling on business?

Must get read y to depart.  Have a good one.
