Fred – I heard a discussion on NPR about K-cups and how they are not recyclable because they must be taken apart.  Single stream recyclers don’t bother and they end up in the landfill.  The inventor of the K-cups doesn’t use them anymore.  Thought you’d like to know.

Marge – the veg garden is well protected by the fence.  The rest of the deer protection will involve Liquid Fence regularly, plants that deer don’t like, blocking their view into my backyard and blocking their access to backyard with two types of fencing deterrents.  The arbor with gate is part of this effort.  I’ll keep you posted.

Good morning.  Overcast somewhat and rain coming later this afternoon.  High in 60s I think.

I think this is the best day for me to get into the vegetable garden.  I see by my notes I did this April 1st last year so not so far behind as I thought.  Lots of lettuces, various bok choy, spinach and snow peas need planting today.  But first must clean up the beds and add compost.  Just remembered haven’t turned on the water spigot yet.  I’ll have to do that to water in what I plant.  I’m not getting the hose out yet.

Expecting someone to give me an estimate on mulching.  I hear his truck now.

    Bye.

Good morning all.  Overcast here.  Rain forecast.  But supposed to go up to 60.  I’ll take it.

Had a nice leisurely anniversary lunch yesterday after church.  Service was short for some reason and our pastor combined Palm Sunday with Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.  Ended on a somber note.  Not sure why he did that.  Didn’t fit.  I usually think Palm Sunday should be joyous. Oh, well.

We stopped by Plow & Hearth for the arbor with gate before we had lunch.  It’s a big flat box now laying on the deck.  Assembly will have to wait until other tasks accomplished.  Annabelle’s garden will have to be reconfigured.  And yes, Tigsy, I will be planting climbing vines on the arbor.  I read that Morning glories don’t get eaten by deer.  There will be other plantings around the base to block their view in with plants they don’t like.  I’ve written up a 9 point plan to tackle this deer problem. Hope it works.

I bought Sarah & William an Easter basket yesterday.  Well, not exactly a basket.  It’s a large pot to plant a flower in outside.  I thought they’d like that to beautify their entry way.  I got a trowel with it too.  I’ll put some Easter candy in it.

Dave – good for you getting things into the ground.  I hope to do that this week too with peas and lettuce.  I need to start tomatoes & peppers this week too inside.  I’m behind from when I did it last year.  Maybe I’ll get to it today since its to rain this morning.

Snow – do you have to water at the greenhouses every day?  No one else to take weekend duty sometimes?

Kathy & Brenda – both of you have grass to mow.  Nothing like that here yet.

Sherry – who is bringing these cold germs home to you?  You’ve been hit with this several times this winter.  Hope you feel better soon.

Mary – what an interesting sounding clock.  How did your budgie take to it?

Tigsy – we use FaceTime to chat with Annabelle.  They visited a farm that had an open house for maple syrup time.  Annabelle sampled the syrup, petted the calf and when they got home she enjoyed the cheese they’d purchased there.  She was eating that and apple chunks while we were talking.

Welcome, Belle.  Maybe you’ve stopped by before.  Sorry if I don’t remember.

Leann – enjoying your AZ trip?  Almost wedding time too?

Marge – I’ll post photos of the arbor when its up in the yard.  In the meantime here’s a link to the catalog photo.  Lots of work ahead of me.  Hope the weather will cooperate.

Must get a move on and start tackling my list.  Having lunch with a friend. She and her DH have today as their anniversary too and same number of years.  We only discovered this last year!

    bye for now.

A quick pop in this morning and a good morning to you.  Sun bright not sure what the thermometer will read today.

Palm Sunday service this morning then off to dinner out and to pick up the arbor.  Hope to connect with the NH branch of the family later this afternoon to see the latest antics of Annabelle.

Have a wonderful day where you are.

P.S. great opening today Stewart. Thanks.

Marge – we got snow flurries very briefly.  Temps have not risen above 35º all day.  Frigid, wintry day!  Will try next Saturday to have the two helpers come.

Thank you so much Maxine.  Look forward to trying some of your recipes.  I know you’ve written here about some of the dishes you make.  Hope your recovery is going well.  How are the renovations coming along?

Maxine – I’d enjoy receiving a cookbook.  I have Sherry’s email and will send my address to her to send on to you.  You are so generous.

Called off the work crew today.  Not even out of the 30s and windchill is brutal – in the teens.  No snow here like at Robbie’s but it feels like it could.  Where oh where is spring?

Good morning.  It’s a brisk day out today.  Wonder how the two helpers will like it being so cold.  The father said he liked working in the cold.  Don’t know about the son.  I want to be out there with them so I’m dressed in lots of layers.  Windy now but hoping it will die down this afternoon.  They’ll be here between 1 and 1:30.

Dan and I celebrate 41 years on Monday. Sunday after church we are going out to eat to celebrate and also going to Plow & Hearth to purchase an arbor with gate.  Part of my deer defense plan and it will be a nice addition to the backyard.  Lots of plans in the offing to tackle this deer trouble.  I’ll keep you posted.

    Time for breakfast now.

Afternoon all.  Where did the day go?

We had pouring rain last night and the pond is filled to the brim.  Frogs are loving it.  Croaking as they do their mating routine.  There will be lots of eggs there before long.

I’ve been working on my deer protection plans.  Next is to take a screen shot of our property from google earth and plot out the changes I will make to the plantings.  The main idea is to deter them from coming in to the backyard.  Fence, fishing line, plantings will join Liquid fence application to keep them from eating here.

Fred – how did your dad injure his toe?  Good you reported the LPN otherwise her supervisors may never have known.

Mary – good for you and our 5 trips to the gym.  I’m getting back to my exercise routine slowly.

    Sherry – yeah for AC.

Tigsy – can’t imagine what you are rigging up on that bunk bed.  Photo?

Time to get back to my task on hand.  Enjoy this Friday.

Taking a break from being outside.  Have accomplished quite a bit for being so out of shape.  Stamina not what it was since I couldn’t exercise regular with foot problem.  I did manage to vacuum the screen porch, sweep the deck, prune a number of things.  I did post some photos on the blog.  I’ve been icing my foot while sitting here.  It’s just barely 60º.  Not getting to 75º as originally forecast.  Highest temp will be at 6 when thunderstorms are to come through.

Found evidence of deer eating the juniper and trying the crocus too.  They didn’t get these.

Good morning all.  Sun trying to break through the clouds.  If that happens will warm up.  They say we will have 75º today.  Must make use of that time outside for sure until rain drives me in.  So much to do out there.

Just spoke with Emily & Annabelle on FaceTime.  They are coming in May flying down for Sarah’s graduation. Yeah!  Annabelle uses the potty every morning now for #2 so Emily is having a potty like Annabelle uses sent to our house.  She’s only 13 months old!

Kathy – don’t you worry about having your computer hacked into if its on all the time?  I shut mine down at night.  I figure that gets rid of cookies placed on it from my searches.  Lately I’ve not had to sign in here and don’t know why that is.  It was a constant sign in before for several weeks.

Marge – I have some nice seedlings up under the grow lights.  I didn’t realize you didn’t drive anymore.  Is there a rideshare system that you can use for transport?

Stewart – that sounds like quite a sizable place.  4 bedrooms.  We could have come to visit.  You probably won’t be living there anymore by the time we visit France.  Not even sure when that will be.

Strange about that plane crash in the Alps.  Those passengers would have known they were going down.  I can’t imagine what they were thinking.  I know I say lots of prayers when I’m flying.

Still in my pjs so if I’m going to get anything accomplished I’ve got to start soon enough.

    Toodles.

Fred – I too have noticed improvement.  This site remembers me again after shutting down my computer even.  I wondered what I was doing differently but maybe as you said the site improved on its own.

Just back from errands.  tried to find fishing line at two different sporting good stores but no dice. I’ll have to order online after all.  It’s part of my deer prevention plan this year.  String the line about 2-3 feet off the ground through the woods along the glen.  Deer can’t see it but feel it and will back away.  At least that’s what the book says.

Tea water getting ready to boil.  Time for a cup, a book and ice on my foot.

Good morning one and all.  Overcast skies. Rain on the way.  Cold wet day ahead.  Supposed to be 70º tomorrow but with rain.  How can I get out to work in the yard?

Leann – hope the wedding goes well.  Nice perk to travel along with your Dh on his job.

Stewart – is the attic livable space is that why there was a carpet up there?  How old is that house? Do you know?

Dave – did you say snow again?

I transplanted some of my lettuce and bok choy yesterday to small pots.  I was surprised by their root structure already.  Everyone seems to have survived the transplant.

GE was to make service call for my refrigerator and dishwasher but they postponed until next Wed. Technician had a death in the family.  Now I think I’ll go run errands this afternoon since I don’t have to sit home to await the repairman.  Maybe the rain will hold off tomorrow and I can work outside.

Seems like we go through this cat and mouse game with the weather every year.  Warm then cold them warm then cold.

Brenda – have the hummers returned to you?  Hummingbird map shows them as far north as SC.

Look at this visitor to my yard:

It came by as I was typing an email to my siblings so I grabbed the camera to take its photo.

I’m chilled sitting here without my sweatshirt.  I took it off before exercising because I got warm.  Now not so warm.

Hello to all who follow me here.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Fred – I sent you an email with the coins I have.  Thanks for the link.

Marge – Emily and family won’t come for Easter.  Too far.  May have Sarah and her DH William here though.  They live closer.  Foot is better.  Thanks for asking.
