Tigsy   Maybush is the common name for spirea does it look like one.  I would like to see a distance picture of the plant before I make a guess of what it is.

Definitely perlite over vermiculite for vermiculite can bind up the soil and make a barrier on top that looks wet all the time and is really dry underneath.  Also if you have access to 1/2 inch size composted bark that also helps with drainage and let’s those roots breath.  When you use both you have to fertilize heavier.  Our soil mix is 1/2 bark that is half inch size, 1/4 peat moss, 5/8ths perlite and 3/8ths vermiculite.

Good morning all it  is cloudy and windy and the temp is dropping winds out of the northwest we did get an inch of rain out of the deal yesterday.

Marilyn we had pineapple lilies at the greenhouse years ago but only in the yellow/ green blooms they were interesting plants for sure.  Have fun with it.  Glad you found the piece yesterday

Carol I hope Jerry’s date went good and he sounds like my son shy and not dating either during college the one girl he went with for almost 3 years broke up with him it devistated him and he hasn’t dated reall since.  We were suppose to get 3 inches or more and only got an inch which I am so greatful for the moisture for we are really dry yet.

Lair have a good drive and a great time with family at Charlene’s and maybe you will be bring home some goodies.

Good evening everyone it was a windy day here got up to 70 so today and yesterday afternoon got a lot done around the yard and in the garden got the some of the potatoes planted, most of the onions, radishes, spinach and kale will do some of the rest this week.  Love being in the garden! Got a lot cut off in the flower beds, but have a long way to go. Things are starting to pop around here and of course lost some things again.

Sounds like everyone was in the garden or greenhouses today playing in the dirt.

Kathy we had the wind and thunder also but we did get about a half inch of rain which is great for the things I put in the garden got a good start then.

Charlene the rain is headed your way I am sending it that way wow 3 inches of rain not anywhere near that much here.

Sandy we all get into shape after the long winter with gardening Lol!

Karen so glad you got so much  done today outside.

marilyn  I won’t put my tomatoes out yet either we still get a frost around the first part of May.

charlie glad you got some warmer weather

well I am going to take a walk being the rain stopped and it smells so fresh out will need a jacket though the temp dropped to 55 after the rain went threw and the winds are now from the northwest.

Kathy and Charlene that is great that most of the plants made it.  Hope you can enjoy the ones that did for years to come.  some of mine plants died over the winter to I think the lack of snow cover did them in even with the leaves I even had several of the double dayilies and the special colored heucheras that did not make it they must be awful touchy.

On  the hellebores some of mine are showing life finally and the next one not a thing.  I dug down and some are plain rotted off like dry rot.  Kathy so that might be the case for your also.

Charlene Do you see signs of the columbine that you liked the double one?  I lost some of those this winter also.

i guess that why we garden it is always a guessing game of what will survive.
