Welcome to the board.  I don’t have much tree knowledge and I am in zone 4 with nice loamy soil, so I can’t give you much advice.  I think Joan gave you some gooe suggestions.  Charlene

Good evening everyone….I had a productive day but still seem to be behind schedule and that overwhelms me at times.  The only reason I am behind is because of material being back-ordered and discontinued…..too bad it happened with couches and a sectional… Right now I have 6 couches in my shop so it doesn’t leave much work space.

My BFF had to spend at least one more day in the hospital.  DS got a new furnace installed today.  More snow/rain in the foecast for tomorrow.  Such is life.

Karen….have another great day enjoying those kids!  I know you love it.

See you all in the morning.  Charlene

Oh my…..their plate is certainly full, isn’t it?  I hope all goes well with the surgery and hope Momma can hang in there and care for herself until the new baby arrives.  I’m sure they are all very stressed and tired.  Continued prayers and thanks, Del for relaying the message.  Charlene

Good morning everyone.  It is 25º and snowing here…that’s different, isn’t it?  They had forecast 3 more inches but now they say only 1 inch….time will tell.

I have been misting trays ever since I got up….too much to do in the morning.  I overslept a few minutes cuz I didn’t sleep good last night.  I was painting woodwork for Leslie all night…..why does a person dream what they do?

Have a great day everyone….just work in my shop for me….and more shoveling.  Charlene

Good morning Molly, Bette, whoever may be typing while I am, and all who visit later.  It is 28º and snowing.  It is too dark to tell how much we’ve gotten so far, but I walked out on the deck and it hits me mid calf, so that is plenty.  No school once again.  I fear these kids will be going to school half the summer to make up for all of these snow days.

Just another day in my shop.  My helper will be there today.  DH has the day off so he offered to help me tear apart a big sectional and I did not decline his help.  We need to shovel before going to work however.

Have a good Monday everyone.  Charlene

Steve…..I planted some nasturtiums yesterday….Black Velvet from Sandy and some new yellow banana split…..think the 2 will be pretty together.

Ili….envious of you and others with flowers blooming.

Janet….great bird shots….what a fun day for you yesterday to have them around to watch.

Carol….lovely photos as always….look forward to your butterfly shots.

Gitti….that is beautiful!  How nice of DH to think of you….any special occasion?

Sandy….I hope to plant cleomes next weekend.  I got a short variety from Donna…..hope I get them to germinate….they do take awhile sometimes and they are one plant that I cannot get to germinate w/out bottom heat.

this is a border dahlia from seed that wanted to be taller than it was supposed to (the yellow one)

I had my planting spree yesterday….3 trays….that is 12 rows per tray X 3 trays = 36 different varieties of plants….not gonna post all of them….like I could remember w/out my journal….OMG….did I post them all in the journal?  I think I was anxious to finish and might have forgotten the last tray.

Good for you, Steve….we are converting you faster than some of the others here…..lol….you are a good sport!  Charlene

Good morning everyone.  It is 34º and raining still.  Later today the temps are to drop and this rain will turn to snow.  We are in the area to get 5-8 inches….that is just what we need….oh well….it is moisture at least.

Del….thanks for the update on Wanda’s DGS.  I know John’s parents must be very happy that Wanda & DH are able to stay at the hospital with John since she is in a hospital so far away.  Continued prayers for all.

I got my domestic duties finished yesterday so today is going to be a gardening day….transplanting and planting seeds.  I woke at 6am and decided it was too dark to get up so I dozed for a few more minutes.  I know it will be darker in the mornings with the time change, but the weather today made it exceptionally dark.  DH is working so no reason for me to not sleep in.

Have a great Sunday everyone.  Charlene

I am trying several new things this year….I always enjoy that.  Like Molly…..I will have to make a list and report later the new varieties.  Some are planted and up…..and the rest will be planted today once I pull myself away from the puter.  Charlene

I tried begonias last year….1st and last time.  Germination was good, but it was downhill from there.

I only got 3 Yvonnes salvia out of 12 to germinate….of course I am using really old seed because my new seed from last year is playing hide and seek with me…..CRS…..lol.  Charlene
Charlene I was just listening to the weather and they said (North) Central and Eastern Iowa could get up to 14 inches of snow.
Kathy….I just listened to the weather forecast again and they have changed it….now they say we can get 5 to 18 inches……guess they don’t have a clue what we will really get because that is quite a gap.  Right now it is still 34º and still raining.  It is settling the snow banks, making room for more.  Charlene

No one has to feel bad that they haven’t started their seeds yet….it is early.  I just jump the gun on starting many things to help get me through our long winter months.

Steve….you know you can sometimes tell the color of a flower by the color of their stem when they are seedlings.  As they mature the stems are all the same color.  When I share coneflowers with people in the Spring I can tell by the stem if it is white or purple.  I can’t tell you what color your mystery seed is because those are mixed color seeds….time will tell.  Charlene

Bette, I am also a “jack of all trades’. thanks to my Mom.  When I was growing up, my Dad was always busy farming.  If my Mom wanted anything built, wall papered,  painted, varnished, upholstered, etc…etc….she had to do it herself.  Consequently, her shadow (me) learned lots of trades.  Charlene

I don’t have bird feeders nor bird baths because of our 2 cats, but I sure enjoy looking at others’ pics…..thank you, Janet.  I look forward to more.  Charlene
