Gayle….I also grew Silene last year….seeds I got from Anky on the seed train.  They were labeled Stocks, but we later discovered that they were Silene….whoever shared them with her gave her the wrong name.  I had a couple different colored ones….but don’t think I took a picture.  Charlene

Stella and Noreen….I understand why you do not start seeds this early….especially if you are going to be leaving a trips.  Those seedlings seem to require care every day.  I do not fertilize my seedlings at all.  Once I used some root stimulator fertilizer and I thought it did more harm than good.  I have found that bottom watering is about the best way to establish a healthy seedling with a good root system.

There are many seeds that I do not start until 6 to 8 weeks prior to planting outside(May 30th is our last frost date)….and those seem to quickly catch up with the ones started in January and Feb….lol.  Charlene

I made those car survival kits for Christmas presents one year….can’t recall everything, but I do remember flashlight(I bought the wind up kind), candle, book of matches, blanket, stocking cap, gloves, bottled water, candy bar, peanuts….I know there was more than that.  I put them in one of those zip up bags that bedspreads come in so they could put them in their trunk and they wouldn’t get all dusty.  Charlene

BRRRRRRRRRRR…..we have a -10 with a feels like of -30.  Our high temp for the day is only supposed to be -2….not much to look forward to, is it?

Monday in my shop again….it will take me at least a couple hours to get it warmed up.  I leave the gas on low over the weekend, but once I get the wood pellet stove going it warms up faster.  I would debate just working from home today, but I have 2 customers that I know of coming because they have the day off.  I know I won’t be going to the post office nor the bank today.  Kids do have svhool, however.

Rob….thanks for the oatmeal…..and that jam tastes homemade…did you make it?

Molly….enjoy your day and the nice weather while it lasts.

Wendy….i wish we could get some snow…..it would feel warmer if we had some ground cover.  The snow we got earlier is all melted from our Jan thaw and a bit of rain.

Sharon….good to see you joining us here this morning.

Karen….I know the excitement of seeing green in those trays….yippee.  I turn my lights on at 5pm until 7am.  They light up the kitchen enough that DH doesn’t need to turn on any lights when he gets up at 3am or earlier to get ready for work.

Have a great Monday everyone….and try to stay warm.  Charlene

Very pretty flowers everyone!  Donna….good to see you posting, and whoever that belongs to is even more obcessed with containers than I am….lol.

I have a few Hollyhocks. I don’t have a real rust problem, but the leaves are a magnet for one bug, while the flowers attract another.  Once they are done blooming, I cut them off.  I have tried digging them up, but that was in vain.

I sure am good at growing plants that are poisonous to cattle….good thing I don’t plan on buying myself a cow….lol

I already have the seeds chilling in the fridge.  I will try a couple in containers and a couple behind my shop downtown (that is my experimental garden)  If it is pretty and well behaved, I’ll share seeds….if it seems to be invasive I will report back to all of you.

Thanks for all of the input….and Julie, thanks for the pictures.  Do you think it comes back from the plant or just reseeds each year?  Charlene

Good evening everyone….I also had problems getting here and I also was logged in.  I got out of here….came back….and I have a completely different board than I used to….they must be doing some kind of updating.

Kathy….I will be home tonight….too cold to go anywhere.  I am going to take a hot bath shortly and then just sit around and soak up the heat.  The furnace is running non-stop.

Del…DD’s neighbor said that he “found Jesus” after he was busted for suspicion of selling drugs last fall, so the cops left him alone.  2 weeks ago DD called and complained because there were people coming and going all hours of the day and night from his house.  The cops responded to her complaint and found a meth lab and removed about 6 pipe bombs plus a bunch of other stuff.  I think it will be awhile before he and his 3 other friends that were handcuffed and hauled away see the outside of a prison cell.

Molly…we are also having the coldest weather since 2009….tonight’s windchill is supposed to be -42ºF……now that is colder than I like for sure.

Steve….lair has had impatiens reseed themselves and his place gets much colder than yours….he is in zone 5.

Lair….go ahead and start a birdhouse or 2….it sure passes time for you and I love seeing them!

Forget who else posted….I’ve got to start writing this stuff down instead of relying on my memory.

Have a good evening everyone and I may check back.  I think I will start the SOD for tomorrow since DGS is coming to stay at 6:30am….not sure if I will have much puter time if any.  Charlene

I am in a colder zone than you 2 Canadian girls and I have already started seeds.  I have only started the slow growers plus I start all of the plants for my containers and I like them to be good sized before planting in containers.  Charlene

When I 1st tried after work it would not do anything….I logged out….logged back in and now i have a different screen than I have ever had before…..but seem to be able to post fine and it isn’t slow.  See what happens in the morning.  If they are doing updates the midnight posters may have major problems.  Charlene
