Noreen….I feel so sad seeing that beautiful Datura bloom!  You sent me seed last year and I had it blooming and loved it!  This year I had 2 plants that germinated from seed I saved…..I planted them outside….and for some strange reason they died.  I do have several of the Purple People Eater seed plants growing and flourishing. Thanks for sharing the pic!  Charlene

Wendy….I may have posted that at one time.  I recall a friend of mine telling me that the outdoor resorts in Okaboji, Iowa do that to keep pests away.  Glad it worked for you!  Charlene

Charlene. Why are your leaves on your coleus so much bigger then the leaves on my coleus?

    [/quote]

Not sure why Gary.  Maybe mine are a different variety than yours.  Mine are also in shade or part shade and I believe yours are in sun….right?  Charlene

Gary, I think you should continue with the coleus and the marigolds, but maybe in moderation.  One year I decided not to plant any marigolds and I really missed them once fall rolled around.  Your coleus do look happy in that spot, but I also try to keep the tops pinched out so they bush out more.

Like the others said, I am always in the planning mode, but I also need to get it written down somewhere because my rememberer doesn’t always work so well….lol.  Charlene

Steve, glad to see you are here!  and what lovely CM.

MD….what great pics…..I had to laugh just imagining you chasing the butterflies around your yard with camera in hand.  I’ve done that before.  We have more monarchs than anything else this year….but they seem smaller than other years.

Giddey….lovely garden pics as always!  I love the phlox, don’t you?

Del….great that your lilac is blooming again.  Our smoke tree did not have hardly any plumes this Spring, but now it has decided to put on a show.  I’ll have to get a pic.

Wendy….very lovely nasturtiums….I’m with Gary….hardly any of mine even germinated.

Linda….that is a very pretty container!

Gary….you sure grow some big Sunflowers!

Just a pic of our front porch.  The hanging baskets don’t have alot of color because all of the fuschias died in the heat of June and July.

Good morning everyone.  It is 68º this morning and the sun has been shining.  Right now it is clouding over and looks like rain….I hope it does.  We are planning on going to get groceries soon and the rest of my day will depend on what the weather does.  If it rains I will also do some housework like many of you are planning.

Molly….at least once your rain passes, the rest of the weeds may be easier to pull and dig.  I have plenty of them that could be eliminated from my gardens…..maybe later…..lol.

Leslie….glad that your report was good.  Too bad it is so expensive, but now you know.

Del…..you certainly get alot of exercise chasing dogs…..lol. Please let us know what the neurosurgeon’s report is. Hope you have a fun day and find some good clearance plants.

Wendy….once a year we have a service of the churches combined here.  We call it ”shall we gather at the river”.  We have a park by the river and that is where the chairs are set up and the service is conducted.  I enjoy the outdoor service.

Bette…..I hope unplugging the fridge works to fix whatever is wrong.  It is always the 1st thing I try when there are problems…..I unplug and vacuum out the motor.  So far it has worked every time.

Have a great Saturday everyone.  Charlene

I like the pot idea for the center of the bed to add height.  Around the border of the bed I’d plant them right in the groud.

Gayle….I don’t know what boat plant is.  I think the impatiens would look nice as ground cover….and you can sure mix alyssum in with them.  I guess I thought alyssum didn’t like your heat.  Md’s suggestion of fuschias is great, but I learned from experience this year that they really dislike any hot temps.

I have several varieties of plactranthus and they all flourish in the summer in part shade.  Charlene

Wow…it sounds like Kathy and I are the only ones that like winter……and ours are much worse than most of yours.  I would not give up my winter weather for time in a warm climate for anything.  I have had enough heat this summer to do me a lifetime!  I have complained about the heat all summer so I promise no bitching about the cold this winter.  LOL  Charlene

I do go to funerals, Memorial Service, or Celebration of Life…..what ever the deceased has decided to have.  I do think it is important that the deceased has input, but often it happens before they can make a decision.

I prefer the Celebration of Life….meaning the honored person has either been cremated or has donated their body to science or are a donor.

Kathy, doing nothing at all is not fair to your kids.  Family need some kind of closure ceremony.  If you do not want alot of strangers there….designate to your kids to have a picnic and bonfire in your honor….but at some point and time they need to say their final goodbyes.  Closure and goodbyes are important…..even after you are gone.  If you don’t believe me, just ask someone who has a family member that was never found nor returned from war, etc.  Charlene

I am just home grabbing a quick bite.  We ended up with 3/4 of an inch of rain….[:D].  That will save me alot of work tonight.  Right now the sun is out and it is 90º.

Yesterday with our 94º temps, there was also gusts of wind in the afternoon.  I came home to empty flower pots rolling around the yard and front porch and broken plants everywhere.  I got them all repotted, but threw many of the broken parts.  It is too early for me to be doing cuttings.  The saddest thing is that my plumeria from Molly fell onto the deck upside down and broke it off right at the ground.  I have that in a cup of water right now and hope to get it planted this weekend.  That poor thing has had an unhappy life in Iowa….lol.  Charlene

I am REALLY looking forward to both Fall and winter.  I love every season.  This past year we had no winter to speak of and we were robbed of Spring because it turned into summer temps in March.  I hope to compensate for no Spring that our Fall and Indian summer last even longer than usual.  I then look forward to a beautiful winter with lots and lots of snow!  Charlene

This guy was hanging out in a geranium in the rain this morning.  He is not as pretty as a butterfly or a hummer, but he is easier to photograph because he doesn’t flutter his wings nor fly away….lol.  Charlene
