Good morning everyone….we are at 27º….that is the warmest temps we have had for awhile, but I’m not happy with what we are getting right now.  There is freezing rain and sleet beating against my windows.  The weather dudes are warning major power outages with this storm, so if I’m not here later that is why.  Later in the week we are to get the coldest temps so far….UGGHHH

DGS just left.  We had a movie marathon yesterday after we got home from the baby shower…..”Bug’s Life”, “ET”, “Toy story #2″…..that was entertaining…..lol.

I am just going to pick up and try to get bedding done before we lose power….and pray that we don’t.

Gotta check out what I missed yesterday….have a great Sunday everyone.  Charlene

Yipes….I’d better check mine today.  They must be a magnet for spider mites…..I had them on it last year.  I saw the spider mite webs on my Mandevillas, so I picked off many leaves….sprayed the plant….and buried a couple cigarette butts in the soil.  Hopefully I have them conquered….I see new leaves starting to grow.  Charlene

Thank you, Nancy.  Actually my hand is feeling really good and appears to be healing quickly.  I am going to go to work tomorrow, but will limit myself to cutting out and other projects that don’t involve use of my left hand as much.  I am just fortunate that it is only a few stitches!  Charlene

Wow….I am so impressed with all of the pretty pics and ideas on this thread.  I’ve already checked out a couple that aren’t hardy for my zone….shoot!

Here I am always envious of the things that Ili can grow in her zone, but don’t stop to think that there are many things don’t grow there because it is too warm.

Thanks everyone for sharing all of these lovely pictures….the weekend isn’t over yet!  Charlene

Karen….so sorry to hear that you’ve been bit by the stomach flu bug!

You are going through what I went through 2 or 3 years ago at Park’s seed….I have not ordered from them since.  I doubt they miss my business, but I refuse to spend any more with them.  Last year I did get a packet of their seed on sale at Lowes or Fleet Farm….can’t remember which, but I will not place an order with them again.  GRRRRRR…..I know exactly how you feel!  Charlene
I wondered how Steve and Charlene was so good at remembering who posted what
I have never used that feature because I always have my screen at 150% and it doesn’t do that then.  I do it from memory (doesn’t work so good because I usually forget someone)….or else I use a cheat sheet……and then I still sometimes forget someone.  LOL  Charlene

So far….so good.  The lights have dimmed a couple of times, but still have power.

Molly….we have a gas furnace, but it has an electronic ignition and electric fan, so w/out power….no heat.  I can light the burners on the gas stove to cook, but cannot use the oven…again because of electronic ignition.  Good news is, I can’t do any ironing w/out power either….lol….I hate to iron!

Kathy….DH said yesterday that he was hungry for potato salad…..I think of that more as summer food, but it does sound sorta good right now, doesn’t it?

DH made it home from work….the gal that was supposed to relieve him couldn’t make it because of road conditions, but the manager filled in for her, so he got home around 2pm.  He is catching a quick nap now.

I will check back later if I can.  Charlene
So Charlene   is a Paulownia  tree the same as a PawPaw tree
If Gary’s picture is a Pawpaw tree….then no, they are not the same thing at all.  The leaves on mine are more like a large elephant ear leaf and very soft.  I got the tree for .99 only to find out it wasn’t hardy for my zone….but it does come back from the ground every year.  We call it our perennial elephant ear plant….lol.

I recall Grandmaof2 talking about Paulownia trees….maybe she will see this and be able to give you more info.  Charlene
I’ve heard plant carrot then radish (one seed after another), you pull the radish and then there is room for the carrot to grow.
Del….when I had a vegetable garden, I always mixed radish seeds with carrot seed and planted them.(learned that from my Mom)  I did not take the time to go every other….just mixed them with sand a sprinkled the seed into the furrow and lightly covered the seed.  As the radishes are ready and you purll them to eat, it automatically thins out the usually over crowded carrots.  Charlene

I always planted onions around my cabbage and broccoli to keep the rabbits from eating them…..rabbits do not like  onions.  Charlene

Gayle….I am gussing that your friends plants are probably all going to make it.  My tropical hibiscus lose their leaves inside of my cold upstairs sunroom, but the plant is not dead.  Trim everything else back and give it a little time.  Seedlings will die much more easily than established plants…..they just lose their leaves from shock.

I’m guessing all will be well with her plants after the dust settles.  Charlene
