I was watching the news and saw what they said her area was going to get so I was afraid she was in for a lot more than she thought was going to happen. At least she is safe and her house isn’t under water like a lot of places. We are still getting a LOT of wind and awhile ago I was at the sink getting a drink of water when the lights went out. I didn’t have a light handy but they came back on in a few minutes. So far so good. Even in NY where my Niece lives they have had to leave their new home and go to a motel, she is on the river there. I consider myself lucky to be in as good shape as we are here. It looks like the wind will continue all night and it is snowing west of Richmond…actually having blizzard conditions in W. Va.

For sure it is far from over here. The wind is really kicking up as much as it did all day. How long the power will last is anyone’s guess but I figured I would at least let everyone know I am still alive, warm and dry. The weather sticker is crazy, unless the wind has died down in Newport News and not here, it is wild here still.

I am headed to bed now and wanted to check to see if anyone had heard from Gayle. I don’t have her number or I would call her. Prayers for her to have a peaceful night and everyone who has been effected by this monster storm.

I like sweet potatoes any way you want to fix them. Have a great sweet potato casserole recipe from my SIL that is the best ever. Baked, fried, boiled any way you want to fix them.I do NOT like canned sweet potatoes any more than I like canned white potatoes [:P] When it is just me I just scrub it and put it in the microwave and add butter salt and pepper. I prefer the taste when they are baked in the oven but for just one potato it doesn’t make sense to turn the oven on. I have a recipe for African Stew that has okra (something I DO NOT LIKE) and sweet potatoes that is good but it makes so much I eat it for a week if I make it just for myself.

Gary a couple of things….one get the water out of that dish underneath the pot. They don’t need or like that much moisture or the cuttings will rot. Second, if they all root take them out of that pot and either put them into a much bigger pot or separate pots. One plant will fill a  6″ pot entirely if you keep it pinched while it is growing.

I have a lot of them outside but…we have had 3 cloudy days in a row and they didn’t even light up last night.

The church wasn’t very full today but it seems like most of the Senior Citizens made it ok…the younger people are wusses! It is raining now but not a lot and not much wind right now either. If it stays like this I will be a happy camper but they aren’t talking like it will last. My poor dog as sat in front of the window all day looking outside like he could wish this rain away. Guess I will go cook something for dinner tonight. I just checked the rain gauge and we have had 2-1/2″ since sometime after 2am this morning. Gayle I have the old fashioned kind…you have to read the gauge [;)]

I grew them for a couple of years then they never came back again. If you try growing them from seed I don’t think they would come back true unless you can find the actual seed for sale. Saved seed would probably revert to one of the parent plants of any hybrid.

I had broccoli cheese soup for lunch about 1:00 so will probably have some french toast or something, too early to decide that.

That looks familiar to what we are having here too, except the lower part of the county roads are all under water and it isn’t even high tide yet. After Isabel most of the homes there were raised so their actual first floor is one story off of the ground.  Unlike Ernesto a few years ago it has started out slower than he did so far all of the rain has soaked into the ground here. I do see some puddles in the driveway now so it will start showing up on top of the ground soon.

Not much going on here unless you enjoy watching the rain and blowing wind.  I wouldn’t mind it so much if I knew it was only going to be for today but the actual storm hasn’t even gotten here yet.  I should be cleaning closets or something useful but I am not in the mood for any of that stuff.

I have a couple of re chargable flashlights a few other ones too, lots of oil lamps and many many many candles. So far not even a flicker in the power.  It is so damp and chilly in here I actually turned the heat on and ran it through once just to take the chill off. I am listening to the Mayor of NYC talking about what will happen there in the next few days, whole areas of the city are to evacuate…I can’t imagine what that might be like.

All of the above is good advice. They are quite easy to root if you follow their directions. I do usually let the cutting dry off for a couple of hours before I put it in a pot full of good moist potting soil.

I think Kathy is right, variegated philodendron … it should not hurt the tree or your skin either. I think it is kinda cool looking. Good luck with your move south, my eldest dd and sil moved from NY to Fla several years ago and they really enjoy life without snow and ice.
