I have made jam and jelly for over 50 years and have had the best luck just following the directions on the Sure Jel package.

Good Morning Kathy, you came in while I was typing. If it is only 80 degrees I can work outside it is those 90 degrees with humidity that kills me. I just went out and turned the pool on and the basket was full of…..Japanese Beetles…my nemesis! I just don’t have the strength to fight them this year!

Good Morning Marilyn and all..our “storm” last night didn’t amount to anything but south of us and in NC it was a doozy. We only got 1/10″ of rain. They say we will get more this afternoon and evening. I stayed up late thinking it was going to get bad but it didn’t…that is ok with me:)
I don’t know what I might get into today, too wet to mow, but there is no end of things that need attention around here. Marilyn I am sorry you had to miss that ceremony last night, hopefully you will be ok for the one tonight. Guess I will take my coffee out onto the porch and see if anything is moving out there.

I didn’t do anything exciting myself. Mowed when the mower would let me, cleaned the pool, watered the greenhouse plants, did some laundry. We are expecting some storms tonight and hopefully the temps will go down a bit. I went out and picked up the mail and stopped to close the greenhouse door in case the weather gets nasty. I took some hamburger out of the freezer, think I will make some sloppy joes with that. Maybe a few baked fries with them.

Good Morning Larry and all..so happy that you could get on this morning! It is supposed to be a little warmer today than yesterday but still not as hot as it was before the rain. I will keep working on getting the lawns mowed 15 minutes at a time! I hope the guy that was supposed to be here last Sat can finally make it to figure out why it is doing that and hopefully fix it. I know that his work has been a problem with the miserable heat so he is working overtime all week. I will continue working on it, the grass is so high it looks like I could bale the hay from it. I hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks to all of you for suggestions about my mower. I don’t have a problem starting it, it runs like a DEERE(bad joke) for about 15 minutes then it starts choking and coughing then quits entirely. Janet the coil might be the problem, ask DH what to do about that? The man working on my dd’s house checked it out today and it quit on him too. When he gets here tomorrow I will ask about the coil. I know it isn’t old gas because we have mowed 3 times before this with no problems. It takes almost 5 gallons to mow the entire 3 acres so it is always new gas every time. I just went out and mowed a section, so if the weather holds in about 4 days I will get mine done and will start on DD’s yard. I thought about the gas so I put some Dry gas in it today and it didn’t help.

When I worked at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs I was working alone in the gardens at their house. I knew I was getting overheated but wanted to finish the bed I was working on so by the time I finished that I didn’t think I would make it to the truck which was a looong way away. Just barely made it, got the a/c turned on and made it back to the warehouse. Ever since I have not been able to work in the heat or the humidity. So I follow the shade when I can but these past days it was too much even in the shade. Today has been perfect and I have worked outside most of the day. If winter doesn’t come before next june I might get it all done:(( bwatcher, I will soon turn 77 and for the first time in my life I am feeling my age.

I couldn’t have done it yesterday when the temps were around 100 and humidity so high. Today is a beautiful day and I started to mow, the tractor is acting up so it quits occasionally, wish the guy who fixes it would get here soon. I have to wait about an hour to be able to get it started again. So I got my weed eater out to do some trimming and apparently it wasn’t charged so it is on the charger now. I have plenty to do while I am waiting for all of these “work saving” things get ready again.:((

I thought I had lost a lot of my hydrangeas, my Fig tree and some other things. However they are all coming back now but I will see no blooms this year. It was an exceptional cold winter for us. So all I can do is hope for next year. I did have two hydrangeas that were protected by a building and they bloomed this year.

I missed seeing this yesterday, since they combined both chats into one I miss a lot of things because I think I have seen all of our threads and I haven’t. Charlene I am glad your son’s house is ok, Lair and Tim are too. We are under the gun from that storm tonight. Hopefully it won’t be as strong as it was there. Now I know why the power company was out bolstering up some poles today, I felt so sorry for those guys standing out in that heat directing traffic and the guys in the buckets working on the lines.

I have practiced the #1- 10 step program this year, well I did buy a few things early but I have managed to not go near any store that has plants, if I want something I send DD for it. I still have some things in the greenhouse, the weather has not been good for planting and when the weather was good I had so much company and things going on it was almost impossible to even water the greenhouse. I have to admit I have some beautiful plants blooming there now:(

A few years ago when I had a bad mosquito problem Charlene shared a concoction that worked really well, all I remember now is it contained Listerene. I tried it with another brand of mouthwash and that didn’t work. Right now a self respecting mosquito won’t show it’s face around here, it is too HOT!

Leroy it is so hot here today even the skeeters aren’t biting..although we haven’t had many so far this year. When they get bad I use the spray that Charlene shared with us a few years ago. I will have to look it up, all I remember is it contained Listerine and it works great.

If Larry and Wendy are talking about the WORX tools, you will love it! I have had the trimmer for several years, the first battery was a dud but they sent a new one and it lasts just a little longer than my back does:))
