Sandy my youngest GD is a senior in high school this year, she is already taking college courses there..saves a few $$ when it is time for college. I am not bragging (well maybe a wee bit:) -but she got a 98 on her final calculus test..so that is behind her now. She sure didn’t get those brains from me! She only goes to school half of the day now too..so she could be going to the community college the rest of the day but she is working after school so that won’t work.

Noreen what can I say that others haven’t already said but your pictures and narrations are wonderful! You have shown us areas we will never be lucky enough to see in person and for that I am grateful. I know how hard it is to say good bye to loved ones, especially the ones we know we might never see again. I was fortunate to meet you at Bette’s and hope sometime in the future we will meet again.

Good Morning all..I am so happy to see that the sun room is open, clean and full of goodies already! But our temps are trying to trick us into thinking it is still summer. I guess I will sit awhile and have some coffee and one of those cinnamon buns before I get started outside, the dew is still pretty heavy.
I have to go to the pool store today to get the chemicals to close the pool, night temps are so cool now it isn’t pleasant to get into. And I still have a few cuttings I want to take instead of moving all of those big heavy plants into the greenhouse.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday

I paid my bills this morning, then went to the transfer station to drop of the recycling…on to the grocery store to get more to put in the transfer station next week:(
I made a batch of Karen’s Flying Farmer Chicken Salad…it makes so much I will give half of that to DD but it can be habit forming! Just finished the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen so I will try to find something to watch on tv tonight…it gets dark so early no time to spend outside now.
I got 6 packs of Juicy Fruit Gum, so will cut them into 1″ pieces and “Plant” them in all of the mole hills outside tomorrow. I had forgotten that I used that one time to get rid of the moles when I lived in Al…and it works. Seems that they like the taste of it, they eat it, it plugs up their system and they die. Since I can’t use grub ex this time of the year it is worth putting that out for them to eat now. I know I looked mighty silly wandering all over the 3 acres there, digging a little hole in the hills, dropping a piece of gum in there, covering it again…but I didn’t have a lot of moles the next summer, the few that wandered in from the field next door got their own gum to chew:)) Walking through our yard right now is like walking on sponges there are so many mole hills there. And since the miserable critters put pin holes in the bottom of the pool to get to the grubs it is justice!!!

If anyone wants poke weed I would be happy to send you some, it is a pesty plant around here, I pull it up constantly. I came in this afternoon and in the corner between dd’s driveway and mine there is a huge one growing. Right in the middle of the bed where it is going to be a problem digging it out. There is enough of that growing wild all over the place I sure don’t need to save any for the birds.

I agree to planting it now. When the blooms fade cut them off and you will probably need to de-bud it a few times next year to make it full when it blooms, how many times depends on your zone. They should be good for a long time if you do that.

Del I understand your frustration. All of my important papers are in a lock box in my closet. Not too long ago I was looking for something and discovered my WILL is gone…the advance directive is there and they were both done at the same time. I have asked all of my girls if I may have given it to them and they said they have never seen it…so now I have to do a new one:(

Please excuse me from butting in but first let me say I love that diplandea! No I am afraid it won’t overwinter in a cold frame, it is hard enough here to keep one going in a heated greenhouse! If any of you that have them is going to cut them back can I please have the cuttings? I am sure I can get some to root. I don’t have one that color in fact my pink one isn’t looking that great this year, don’t know why maybe like us they have a life span? I have had this one since before I moved here in 2004.

Good Morning Charlie…I grew up and lived in NYS for years and I remember the first killing frost this time of the year..would kill everything and then warm up again:( It is cooler here but not any frost …. YET!
Not much going on here just getting things cut back and cleaned up for winter. I love this time of the year, the humidity is lower so it is fun to be outside again. I hope everyone has a great day!

Mine is too thick this year so in the spring I need to thin it out. No it isn’t edible but it sure smells sweet enough to eat:) My Dr. Moy which is a smaller peach color has already bloomed and my White Hawiian Ginger is just beginning to bloom. As soon as I can in the spring I will be thinning them out and if anyone wants some I will be happy to share then.

I have a red perennial salvia and I would love to have the other colors to go with that! I am going to try rooting some of the red and if it works I can share some here.

I hope DH gets over his cold soon, they can seem to last forever this time of the year.
I have a ton of things to get done today so why am I sitting on the computer??? I guess since my coffee is finished I had better get a move on.

I wondered what happened to you! I figured you were just having a busy summer. Congrats on the new addition, unfortunately mine are all grown and I do miss the prospects of more. It sounds like you have been a busy bee all summer, hope your dreams of spending the winter in Az. come true..if so be sure to let us know where you are?

They tell me that the best way to use JB traps is to put them in the neighbor’s yard! Ours are gone for this year but not before they turn some plants into shreds. They not only ruin plants but the moles have put pin holes in the bottom of the swimming pool digging for the grubs! We have had to patch a lot of holes in the pool and there are some new ones that must be patched before we can close the pool. And the water is cool and not fun to get into to patch the holes. Next spring I will use grub-ex to kill the grubs that the moles love.
