Good Morning, It is 50* and the sun is trying to come out.  Don’t know what today will bring because I have a few things I have to get done before I go outside.  Some stupid phone calls and maybe I will take a shower first.  That’s always a good way to start the day.  I need to run but I’ll be back later.  Have a good one.  Lair

Charlene, Illi, and snow are right!   I just lost mine after 17 years.  It was doing so well and in full bloom when I walked into the GH and found all the blooms and leaves on the floor.  I thought it would come back because it has done that before but it is not happening.  I now have a pot with dead branches and fond memories.  I just hope I don’t have to go to Mexico and smuggle another slip back again.  That’s how I got this one. Good Morning Carol,  It ia 39* and sunny here this morning.  Looks like it will be a great day.  Yesterday didn’t go as planned.  I got my day going just fine and then at 10am two of the boys came over and wanted to work.  I had them haul all the branches we cut last week down to the burn pile and then we planted lily bulbs.  I dug the holes and they put the bulbs in and covered them.  We got about 250 planted but we got rained out by noon.  It rained most of the afternoon.  It was forecast to rain in the morning and clear off in the afternoon so they were wrong again.  The boys went home and Andy called and he was off school and wanted to come over and work on the lawn mower.  Tim went and got him and the two of them worked on the mower for 3 hours.  The got everything done that should have been done since Tim got sick and put off.  It was too wet to mow so he will have to come back and mow today if it is dry. Andy and I talked for a while and it sounds like he is doing well without his 4 friends in school.  I sold my rototiller yesterday.  I haven’t used it this year and I doubt if I will next year.  Most of my beds have so many perennials I can’t use it anymore.  Today I need to pay bills since it is after the 15th.  Not sure what else I’ll do but something will come up.  Sure wish I could get new tires on my car but I hate to put it on a credit card.  It takes so long to get paid off anymore.  Carol, I hope you get your car back and don’t have to put up with a loaner.  Mary, have a good day at work.  Everyone else, I’m thinking of you and have a good day.  Lair

Good Morning, It is 50 and the sun is trying to come out this morning.  Yesterday I was busy finishing up the Greenhouse and little things around the house. I had dinner ready and the recycling ready to out to the curb when Tim got home.  He came in and did his chores, ate, and went right to bed.  He was very tired after a long hard day.  He is still in bed so I guess he needed the sleep.  I’ve got a busy day planned so I have to get moving.  I’ll be back later when I have some time.  Have a good day,  Lair

The actress you are looking for is Brook Shields.  She is all made down and trashy but really plays the part.  Lair

I don’t cut mine back until the spring.  In 2 of the 3 years mine leafed out on the old wood and bloomed early in the season.  The other year it just came back from the root,  This year mine is small so I’m going to cover it with leaves and see if that protects it in the cold.  Lair

My neighbor is a complete idiot too.  He is 2 doors down and he mows at 7am on Sundays but has been known to mow at night since he bought a new mower with lights.  His whole yard is just larger than it takes for him to turn around so he bought one of those sharp turn mowers and runs it wide open (fast and loud)  The neighbors nest door hardly ever mow their lawn.  That’s a bunch that amazes me.  Husband, wife and 3 kids with the youngest being 24, no one in that house works but they do have a 22″ camper and a 18″ power boat.  Our Gov. dollars at work.  Not for sure what programs they are on but I would love to find out.  Meals on wheels just cut them off so maybe someone is catching on to what they are up to.  Enough complaining for me.  Lair

Good Morning Mary and all to follow,  It is 45* and sunny here this morning.  Looks like it will be a nice day with our high temps building every day until next Monday (week from tomorrow) when we hit 70*.  Can’t wait for that.  The furnace sure felt good this morning. We don’t have the main furnace on just the one for the Kitchen and TV room.  Tim is off to work this morning so my coffee was done when I got up.  I’ll have to get the recycling done for him to take to the curb when he gets home.  He is working Tuesday and Wednesday days this week so he will have overtime on his check.  Next Monday he has chemo again so he will need the money.  Carol you asked about his chemo, he will have one treatment a month for the rest of his life.  At stage four they can’t cure the cancer, just keep it under control.  Right now he has no signs of active cells but if he does they will have to do the treatments more often.  He is so lucky they found the right stuff that agrees with him right away.  He gets a treatment one day and then the next he gets steroids.  the steroids keep him from getting nausea  and builds the immune system.  Insurance pays most of the bill but he has a $250.00 co-pay plus another 100 for specialist fee. Speaking of bills, I see I have some here to pay so I should see if I have any money to pay them.  That story may have a sad ending.  Well I will get going, I need to answer an e-mail and get on with my day.  You all have a great Sunday.  Lair

Good Morning everyone, It is a sunny 34* here this morning and the meadow is white with frost.  That’s colder than they predicted. Don’t think we will see 50 today.  Yes the furnace feels good.  I didn’t do much yesterday but just a few chores around the house.  Way too boring for me to think about let alone boring you with details.  Last night Tim came home in a super mood and a employee in tow.  His employee is going to buy a bunch of walnut wood I’m wanting to get rid of.  Tim was in a good mood because the big boss had pulled him aside and told him he was doing a great job.  If he continues at this rate they will be caught up with orders by next week.  In the last 3 years they have never been caught up except over new years weekend when nobody orders.  I made a nice dinner of meatloaf, potatoes and cauliflower.  Tim who never eats much had 2 helpings.  He was then so tired he went to bed before 9 pm.

It isn’t warm enough to do anything outside so I will just have to work around the house again and maybe cut my hair.  It is way long and really needs a cut.  Dog is barking at something so I need to go.  Have a good day everyone,  Lair

Kathy,  the white drops are sap from the plant.  Whenever a leaf breaks off it will run white and then scab over and that is what the black is, scabs.  Sounds like a but eating the leaves, I had a grasshopper on mine doing that.

Good Morning everyone, It is a wonderful morning here.  Although it is 44* and raining I woke up to a warm house and coffee already done.  Tim was up before 5 and turned on the furnace and made coffee then went to work. (just a guess because I was sound asleep) With the weather like this the cats are very snuggly just want to sleep using me for a day bed. It’s hard to type because one is wrapped around my arm right now.   Not much planned for today except making dinner tonight for 2 for a change.  Yesterday went very well.  I couldn’t have chosen a better day to work on the GH winterization.  It has been on my list for a few weeks but the weather yesterday was the perfect day to find the air leaks and seal them.  Today I will vac. the floor but I got the cob webs down yesterday then move some plants in when it stops raining.  It seems early for that but unlike Carol we have no highs near 70* for the next 10 days.  Time to start my fall thinking.  I should get my camera out also and take pictures of my successes and failures so I remember next year.  Digital cameras are such a God send when it comes to record keeping.  What did we do when we had the old cameras with film, I guess we didn’t take pictures.

Leroy, you have a good day at work.

Carol, how is it without a car?  Sorry about the pool being a memory.  It was a good one though.

Snow, hope you get the weekend off so you can overdue at home.  I know it is a waste of time to tell you to relax.

Sandy, sounds like you made good use of your time at home this week.  I have never canned salsa just freezing for me.  I remember my Mother canning month after month when I was a kid.  We never went to the grocery store when I was a kid.  When we did go it was just for sugar and flour in 50 lb. bags.  Other wise everything we ate was from cans or the fruit cellar.

Mary, hope you have a good day at work with extra help.

Jan, I hope you are feeling better and get over the crap you have.

Dena, hope all is well with you and yours.  I’ve been thinking about you and am eager to hear what’s up.   Hope you have time to stop by.

Well, I need to get moving, I have ladder legs so I won’t be on the ladder today, feet and legs are sore.  Don’t know what muscles you use on a ladder but I don’t use them much on a daily basis.  Everyone have a good day.  Lair

Just covering the plant doesn’t work here in Iowa, zone 5 where we do get almost -40*. To get enough pine pine needles here to protect it I would need a bulldozer.  Lair

Del, I cut about a foot but I don’t remove the leaves or the growing tips.  When you leaves the leaves on it is so much easier to remember which way goes up.  I have never had the leaves drop, it just continues to grow like it is still part of the mother plant.  Lair
