Good morning, all. Windy, about 4” of snow down, and I’ll have to clear off the car before I go anywhere. A modest 18*.
    .
Stewart, do you mix mashed potatoes and peas? My DM used to fix new potatoes in a cream sauce with peas added. Good combination – I should fix that again. Didn’t know what Schizanthus was, so googled it. Very pretty; I see it’s a member of the nightshade family. Nonsense – we “adopted” you because you have interesting things to say and are a nice fellow! Your opening is just a bonus! :)
    .
Brenda, I second that: definitely crazy weather. We haven’t had piles of snow like this for at least a decade, likely longer. My back complains about all the shoveling I’ve done. Glad you got only rain.
    .
KB, you’re lucky your snow all went away. Wish ours would! Is your fireplace your only source of heat? Brrr! What kind of a dog is Bud? Stay warm!
    .
Steep, MORE ice? Not like you need it. Hugs to Emily & Matt, plus prayers for everything to go well. How exciting for you, too!
    .
Keggy, I guess that’s a better combination, ice on top of snow, than the other way around. Then the slippery part is hidden and can surprise you. Be careful if you have to do the driveway.
    .
Sherry, it was headache night – I woke up about 3 with one, but not a migraine.
    .
Robbie, we should’ve figured you’d have the ice too. It missed us, thankfully. Be careful if you do have to go out.
    .
Better get going; I work this afternoon, will have shoveling to do first. Ugh.

Good afternoon to you Stewart, and good morning to all on this side of the Atlantic/Pacific.

Yes Stewart there is no excuse for not trying my luck at veggies.  Oh…I do the cukes and tomatoes, but that’s about all.  I wasn’t even going to do that this year.  What I did plan is to get these 5 gallon containers and plant a few tomato plants just so I can have a nice fresh tomato.

I did try my hand at composting, and that was a total disaster…not to mention the neighbour next door did not appreciate the odour that was coming from my large black compostor.  I found out when I finally dumped it into garbage bags for pick-up…..I should have cut the produce into smaller pieces.  Yes, I have another impostor going, and will try to do it right this time.

Well it looks like things are running fairly good again on the board. What a frustrating mess that was. It is minus 25 today with a WC of minus 32. Not going out at all.

I do a lot of container gardening. My whole veggie garden is in raised container beds and I do a lot of peppers, tomatoes and chilies in pots on the patio. Hardly have any flowers except for the perennials. I also have a large raised herb garden that use to be a raised fish pond, but the fish got too big. The goldfish were measuring around 10 inches so catching them to bring into the house to put in tanks was too much for me so I gave them to my neighbor who has lots of fish tanks in his house.

I can hardly wait to get outside again just to sit on the patio and  listen to my radio. This will be a very noisy summer through as the house next door is being knocked down and a new house being built.  I thought this would never happen as we have had a lot of trouble with the teenagers in that house – drugs, filthy language, etc.  However our guardian angels must have been watching and took pity on us. The new neighbors are great. They already live in the neighborhood and have three nice little kids.  He is a lawyer and she was a nurse, and the kids already love my little dog Oliver so life is going to be pretty good from hereon out. I will have a new neighbor to pawn my zucchinis on too!!!! and I will throw in some tomatoes and cucumbers……and probably a lot of other veggies. The two little boys on the other side just love to come to the garden and pick veggies for their Mom.  It is so cute to see little kids in the garden – they are so surprised about everything. When Jake pulled up his first carrot his eyes were like saucers.  Wow.

Hello again.  It is snowing like crazy here.  Cant see across the road.  Really coming down.  LOL  I love it!!

Stewart I sent you an email you might like.

Dave I also sent you one.  CHeck it out.

Steep I also looked up that flower of Stewarts.  They are very pretty.  Maybe along the lines of a butterfly bush?  They do almost look like an orchid though.  Not quite sure.

Albertagran, glad you got nice neighbors.  My son and I just moved out of a house last spring with the same thing.  Very annoying.  We had only lived there 2 years.  I called the police and everything but nothing was ever done so we put a For Sale sign on the house and moved.  Now we have great neighbors.  Best thing we ever did.

    Have a great day everyone!

Stewart-it’s always a fine thing to be good for something and do it well! ;) Fine job!

Keggy-missed the morning here, but good afternoon!

Sherry-the only thing I know about football is that it bores me to tears. I always like to root for a home team, but someone would have to tell me when to cheer! LOL

Steepdrive-Congratulations! We are just finishing up the paperwork on 2 new family members. It’s very exciting.

Tigsy- Bud is a little black and white mutt and they are standing stead fast on us getting more snow tomorrow. Brr!!

Mary- I can promise my posts will likely need deciphering. The more comfortable I become here, the more my “own tongue” takes over my typing. And, I am not the least offended by anyone asking what the heck I’m trying to say!

Thank you for a taste of things to come, Stewart.

Albertagran- We are planning to start some raised beds this year. We are  hoping it will help with dealing with the drought.

I supposed I’d better move on out of here and get busy. If I don’t get in some firewood and load the dishwasher, I might miss my threshold for a NAP! Have a great afternoon, ALL!

You will love the raised beds.  So easy to water, and you don’t waste any water.

Ours are 4 x 8 and then I have a big one for the squash 5 x 15.  We have had ours for about 30 years now. The neighbors all thought we were crazy when we started building them, but we proved them wrong. We can seed closer than a conventional garden, hardly any weeds, and we can sit on the edges as we are seeding. I have 16 of the small ones and the one big one. Someone is always hanging over my fence looking at the garden. I had one old fellow actually starting to cry when he saw them because he said he had never seen anything like that since he left the old country. Also my husband put old carpeting, upside down, between them so that there is no mud. You will love them.

Good afternoon we did finally get some snow only 2 inches so wont do much good but better than nothing.   The wind has blown it all into piles though so the ground isn’t covered.   Other than that not much going on went to visitation for a distant cousin last night he live to a nice age of 93 and was at home to the end.   Well back to work I go will come back later to read.

Steep I did peek at your pictures they are beautiful.   Be careful though.  Prayers for Emily and Matt that everything goes well and they have a beautiful, healthy baby daughter to bring home next week.

    See you all later

8 in the evening here. DH at work, so it’s quiet. Busy afternoon at work, got a lot done. Rode a couple miles on the stationary bike, and here I am again!
    .
Albertagran, I won’t complain about our 20 below of a couple weeks ago. I’ll bet your -25 is fairly commonplace. Yikes. I’m dreaming of warmer weather too. We’ve got a lot more snow than usual. You make raised beds sound really great. Maybe I should try out the idea. I pay a guy to rototill my whole garden every year ($25, tho he’s never raised his price), and raised beds would be easier to dig “manually” I suppose. The upside-down old carpet for paths sounds like a great idea– I’m plagued by weeds.
    .
KB, sorry you’re getting more snow Thursday. This is a very unusual winter all over the country!
    .
Snow, glad you had some precipitation finally, even if it did just blow around. We’ve had a lot more blowing snow too. Lots of drifting.
    .
Guess I’ll go read my book for a while. Have a good evening!
