We had 4-1/2″ of rain last night but it has all soaked in this morning. Going to be extremely hot and humid today. I have an appointment for the shot in my eye this afternoon. I am a week late for that due to my vacation. The mower guy came and picked up my mower yesterday, he will get the part for that today so hopefully by tomorrow I can mow the lawn. Someone said it would be cheaper to buy a new one but believe me, it would not be. With 3 acres to mow it takes a big mower to get it all done and they don’t come in cracker jack boxes!! I have spent less than $200.00 in repairs since I bought this one and that would only be a down payment on a new one. I got all of the cleome pulled yesterday before the rain, the stink bugs just creep me out when they start on them. It seems that the Japanese beetles are about finished for the year too so maybe I stand a chance for some of my crepe myrtles to look good again.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Good morning, Molly and all. Back to work for me. I took yesterday off to keep the baby for his parents to take some EMT tests. They didn’t pass all they needed to, so will have to take some over but don’t know if I will be able to take more vacation so soon. Then I took DGS#1 home and had a women’s group at church. We watched a webcast and decided on a new book/dvd study to do.

I need to cut down the gloriosa daisies since I noticed when they started looking bad that the aphids are back. I need some new clippers to do that with, but might put DS#3 to work on it when I get some. I don’t trust him pulling weeds, but he can cut grass (when it dries out) and cut things back.

Not sure what I will do tonight. It’s either balance my checkbook (or at least enter the debits I haven’t put in lately) or work on the floor. I haven’t had a chance to do that in over a week, but this weekend I am determined to start putting down the vinyl planks, so I need to get the front subfloor done.

    Have a good hump day.

Good morning Molly & all. We had just over 2 inches of rain. It seemed like more then that- it poured all day yesterday. Its humid now, not sure about the day. Doesn’t matter to me- I’ll spend it in a “training” all day at school. Yippee. And the girl I’ve been working with quit. She’s getting divorced & needed a better paying job. The one she took gave her more pay in 1 week then a whole month at the school. Can’t blame her for that but I’m sure going to miss her. We worked so well together. I called the girl who was filling in when 1 of us was out. She works full time at another building. I’m hoping she’ll want to move to my building. And again the principal in another building wants me to go to her building to “straighten” out that kitchen. I really don’t want to move. It would be longer commute for more work. HHHMMMM…..

Yesterday was fun. Except for the losing money part. DH wanted me to win enough to pay off the mortgage. Yea– that didn’t happen!! But it was nice to talk to my friend. We had a good day together.

Took DH to the oral surgeon only to make an appt to have him grind his bone down in his mouth. DH is not looking forward to that.

Molly it just seems like you always have mower problems. Guess that’s why it seems cheaper to get a new one. We have a zero turn mower. It works great. I love it. It cut out mow time in half. Let me ask you– how old is this mower & what grade gas are you using? This gas with ethanol in it is killing small engines. We were advised to use 89 grade. It has made a difference. Maybe you could try that. Although I don’t know what your problems are. But this is something we discussed with a repair man. These small engines weren’t designed for this gas. Of course not!

Guess I better get moving. I think I’ll see if the baby WANTS to sleep over tonight– surprise DH.

    have a good day all

Good morning, I saw in the morning news that New York is flooded but not sure what part but people were stranded.  I didn’t see Wendy post this morning so makes me worry about her trying to get to work.  I hope she checks in soon.  Yesterday afternoon we had rains all around but nothing heavy like has fell since I’ve been on vacation but boy did the humidity plummet.  I think we are close to 10 or more inches of rain since last Friday and if I thought the weeds were bad before, OH MY are they awful now.  Creeping charlie is covering things and since we will only be 76 today I think I may go on and spray all the creeping charlie to try and kill it back once we dry out and get the lawn mowed since its way too tall.  JB once again woke me at 7 am as he went to go potty and came flying back in down the hall and bounced me about off the bed sticking his nose in my neck with paws wet to his body so guess I’ll be stripping the bed today. LOL  I’m about canned out except i have huge heads of cabbage and should put up kraut and chow chow chow but not feeling real inclined to right now as well as freeze some chopped peppers and onions if they haven’t rotted in the ground.  Sure has about ruined my tomato crop that is remaining as they split and rot on the vine. Did get the electrical problem at the pool fixed yesterday so that was another $40 out of my pocket. Sigh!

Molly I need to drain the gas out of my mower and push it to the street for someone to scrap or part out.  It has a short pull cord and its slipped and its a REAL short pull now and won’t start and the casing is riveted in and if I take it apart, there is no way to put it back together so I’ll just use Steve’s mower the rest of the year since he can’t use it anyway.  Bummer his Craftsman is not self propelled but a lot lighter of a mower than this Poulan I have.

Sue I hope you get the baby, from your pics on facebook looks like your having a blast when you have a sleepover!

Leslie hopefully you will have help to get your floors laid now that you have people living with you. Its so hard when you have no one to help with anything and have to hire it in.

Guess I need to get dressed and get started on cleaning house and doing more laundry while the outside world dries out.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning everyone.  It is a brisk 53º again this morning.  I am so envious of all of the rain that many of you guys are getting.  It sprinkled the other night….didn’t even register in the gauge….we need it so bad.  No mowing here since the grass is dying.  DH did run the mower around last Friday just to cut off the weeds.

I looked last night for a chit chat thread and didn’t see one.  I guess I was ½ asleep because there was one…..I read it this morning.

Kathy….I am glad that one of your butterfly bushes is dark purple.  So far I have 1 dark purple and 2 lavender….still 3 more to bloom.  I sure hope I get 1 pink and one white.  If not….I still have more of the mixed seed to start this winter.  DSis said hers aren’t blooming yet….and I can’t remember what Lair said about his.  I don’t recall if I shared any with Julie….I didn’t give one to Melissa because they would not be hardy in her zone….or at least I don’t remember sharing with her….lol.  My memory is getting bad…..lol.

Molly….I hope you can figure out what is wrong with your mower.  It seems that yours are always minor fixes.  I know big mowers for your size of yard are super expensive.  Good luck with your shot today….afterwards, you better just stay in and soak up the AC.

Leslie….we have some yellow daisy looking wildflowers that often get red aphids.  They don’t kill the plant, but they sure creep me out.  I haven’t seen any on them so far this year.  Another thing I haven’t seen this year is earwigs.  We never used to have them and then because of 2 mild winters, we were plagued with them in 2012 and 2013.  Now that I said that, I will see a bazillion of them.

Sue….I am sure you didn’t expect to win big dollars at the casino….just glad you had a fun day.  Good luck with your training and I hope you get a good helper this year.  It sounds like you need a “baby” fix….lol.

Del….wow…you sure are getting lots of garden produce put up for the winter.  I don’t do any anymore.  We are getting more tomatoes than we can eat, but I have been sharing with others that don’t grow them.  I think my cucumbers have bit the dust….all of the leaves have turned brown and crispy.  Swiss chard is still going strong.  It has liked our cool summer.

Work in my shop for me today.  Have a great day everyone.  Charlene

Good morning. We had a little rain last night, but not too much.  Feel like I didn’t get much done yesterday, but I did go shopping for groceries.  I ordered cabinet pulls for the kitchen, made an appt for the stone people to come measure our countertop (yeah!), baked some chocolate zucchini cookies, and made dinner.  Running again today as dd has band and volleyball again.  Want to get some painting done, but need to go back to the garden to see what needs tending.  Things grow fast at this time of the year.  My bff came over last night to see the kitchen progress.  She brought her 5 month old puppy so the kids had fun playing with him.

Hope everyone has a fabulous day.

Well Charlene I wouldn’t have even canned anything but I have to have it for my bosses for Christmas.  They TOLD me and EXPECT a big basket of canned goods and baked goods for Christmas so I’m not doing a whole lot, just 3 kinds of pickles, salsa, at the request of one boss I actually canned green beans but just 7 quarts and some rotel.  If I do sauerkraut and chow chow it will only be 4-5 jars and to be honest I’m tired of canning. LOL  Wish I could send you some of my rain but we are to dry out after today and then it starts again Sunday.  Coolest wet summer we have had in some time, sure haven’t enjoyed the pool much this year.  Wasn’t even worth opening.

Good morning.  The sun is shining and it is breezy around here today.  Our high temp will be in the upper 70′s – they think.  I saw a few 80′s in the forecast for the weekend.  One weather guy said exactly what DH has said, once the kids go back to school, the 90′s will return.  So far this year, we have only hit 90° three times.  Wouldn’t that just figure?

I think I will plant some broccoli seed this afternoon.  It is always a treat to go harvest veggies from the garden!  It’s been a while for the broccoli.  I’m sure I will enjoy it in the fall the same as I do in the spring.

Leslie, we have family members who have tangled with those EMT tests.  They are no joking matter.

    Have a good day!

We had rain off & on yesterday & again in the wee hrs of this morning. (Not as much as  Molly though)  Now the sun comes & goes & it was 77º at 8:45 this morning.

The mosquito plane finally showed up !  (Just a few minutes ago) Good thing too because they were about to swarm & carry me away.  Of course people still complain.  Now they’re complaining it didn’t make enough passes.

All I’ve done so far this morning is the usual morning chores in the house, load & start dishwasher, make beds, feed the cat etc; I did go out & walk around the yard & filled birdfeeders while I was out there.  Wore long pants & at one point my hands were covered with mosquitoes (Pre-plane)

Getting ready to run to the store in a few minutes for some groceries & maybe if the mosquitoes are gone I might do a little yard work when I get back.

I pulled cleomes one day last week from my d’way bed.  They were starting to go to seed & I don’t want any in that bed next year.  Don’t really have a problem with Stink Bugs & the JB Beetles have  moved on except for a few here & there.

I am pulling or moving all the tall straggly plants from my d’way bed to give it less of a wild look next year so that’s one reason the cleomes are going.

Also redoing one side of the fence bed in the back yard.  Trees have gotten bigger, meaning more shade so I need something different there now.  Will be taking almost everything out except for the Phlox .  I have two roses I’m moving to a sunnier bed & thinking about replacing with Summersweet bushes.  Adding Milkweed plants & maybe 4 o’clocks.  Of course plans will probably change between now & Fall.  I have other areas/beds that I will be changing also

Leslie, you’ve been doing a lot of work to your place.  Makes me think of Molly & the parsonage.  You will have a brand new place when you are all done. I need to get the carpet guys back in here & stretch a portion of my LR carpet again.  I see a ripple starting.  Not really bad at the moment so I’ll wait for a little while.

Hope everybody has a great day

Deloris, although we have gotten our share of the wet stuff, that was not here. The news I saw was on Long Island.
