I have grown the pink and lavender Silene….aka Catchfly, but it looks a lot different than this variety.

Growing After germination grow on the January sowings at 15C until they are established and pot on into 9cm pots, 6 packs or put 3 plugs in a 11cm or 1 litre pot for sale from April onwards. Grow as cool as possible and use the growth regulator B nine to achieve good quality compact plants.

Starburst is a good name for them.

It’s so nice that SOD can continue on the new board. Great job posting.

For some reason no picture is showing up on my computer. Anyway I found a plant at the green way this past spring and took  the picture below. I posted it here before and y’all decided it was silene. Is this by any chance the same variety or at least in the same family of todays subject ? I went back and got some seeds but not sure when to plant or even where to put them if they germinate.

That is pretty.  I think I grew catchfly a few years ago. From what I remember it was suppose to be deer resistant? Either deer or rabbits ate mine but I did get to see a few flowers.

Very lovely flower and unusual at that.  A very vibrant color that would spice up a garden and look wonderful next to flowers of yellow and white color.

Steve….it certainly appears to be in the same family.  I am sure you will find a place for it.

Can everybody else see the picture….sorry if you can’t….don’t know what else to do because I can see it.  Charlene

Yes, Steve that’s Silene in your picture.  I grow the red kind but it also looks a little different than today’s photo.

BTW, Charlene, I see the picture.  It is at the end of the post.

    Mine looks like this.

Hmm, I could’ve sworn I had red.  But this Pink.

Gayle….mine looks exactly like yours.  That is why I stated in my intro that this variety is different than the Silene that I grow….thus the name….Starburst.

If you google Silene, you will find MANY different varieties.  I just wanted to share one that I did not think any of us grew….plus I love the red/orange flowers.  Charlene
