I found it in the dirt the other day and moved it to some other dirt so that hopefully in the spring I can find out what it is.

oh dear lol. I see how it’s going to be.

Yeah I had already narrowed it down to the NAWT ADORABLE category, but thanks for the affirmation.

Do you think maybe some sort of hornworm caterpillar ie: a sphinx moth of some sort?

Why yes… fishseddy I guess I did!  That’s hilarious.  Wouldn’t be the first time something comes up in the spring that I have no idea what it is.

yes Sharon, that is what I think – a large moth but how in the world do they get out of the ground???

My first thought was a cicada, Don’t know why I thought that, I have never seen one in person, just in pictures or on TV.;)

But maybe some sort of hawk moth??? (she said hopefully)

It has the right size but it doesn’t have that sort of horn thing on the outside.  There are lots of hawkmoths here – maybe an achemon (sp?)

I think it has wings – because of you can sort of see them.  I don’t know if we have cicadas here Resa?  I could follow that lead and have a looksee tho

We do have a lot of the stink bugs Sharon, but they are quite small and I have seen their pupa a lot in the ground.  This was quite big – bigger than 2″ I would say?

Aw gross fishs.  I hope that isn’t it! On the other hand, I have never seen a cicada in my life so hopefully they don’t live here as they seem just too yucky.

Anyway we are now off to romp in the fields and get all good and stinky in the swamp. ttfn ladies!
