    While I was walking in the woods, I spotted this small butterfly.  Does anyone know the name of this particular butterfly?

    Stella – Looks like a moth to me, actually. Moths almost always rest with their wings open (butterflies can too, but usually only in the sun). I don’t know the exact species, but it looks like a type of geometrid moth. There are hundreds of species of geometrid moths in North American alone, so you may not able to get any more specific than that. A lovely little creature, nonetheless!

    Thanks for the info Jill…..!  I would have never thought this to be a moth.  Glad I learned something different.  I agree…quite a pretty insect.

    Stella, Moths have hairy looking antenna, Butterflies do not.
