I wrote this poem a few years back. I have shared it before, but thought some others may enjoy reading it….if you are a seed starter, you may appreciate it. There is a lot more to seed starting than many know.

    A Flower for My Friend

I picked a flower for my friend from the garden where it grew.

She said it was just lovely, but if she only knew.

That flower didn’t just happen.  It didn’t fall from the sky.

It took money, love and labor as I didn’t want it to die.

Last fall it was a tiny seed about to blow away.

I put it in an envelope and said, “Right here you’ll stay.”

When winter days were cold and arctic winds did blow,

the seed came from the envelope, for it was time to grow.

I placed it in a bed of dirt, the climate warm and wet.

I checked it many times per day.  I never did forget.

It soon shot up two little leaves. They smiled at me one night.

They seemed to cry, “Please help me. I’m searching for some light.”

I moved it to a happy place with light 12 hours a day.

The grow lights that I purchased really seemed to pay.

The little pot I put it in was soon to small for it.

Our hardware had a larger one, and that, too, cost a bit.

    Miraclegro and H20, dirt with vermiculite;

The book that I had purchased, taught me to do it right.

It soon was time to move outside. It needed room to grow.

I wondered where to plant it and the book helped me to know.

It seemed happy in its’ new home, but my work wasn’t done.

It still required watering and visits from someone.

Today it is a beauty, but this is not the end.

For now I got my true reward. I shared it with a friend.

Charlene….not going to quit my day job….lol

Donna….maybe I will place a link there.  I posted it a few years back, but many are gone and the ones that remain have CRS….LOL  Thanks for the compliment.  Charlene

This is a beautiful poem Charlene. You put so much loving care & thought into everything I’ve seen you share with us. This poem is also quite educational too! You may help enlighten potential seed starters while you delight many kindred garden souls with your sweet poem.

Thank you for sharing this with us; I hope many more get the chance to read your lingual labor of love.
