In late November, Wisdom the Laysan Albatross returned to Midway Atoll in Hawaii to nest for yet another year! While that might not seem like headline news, this is actually an incredible feat, as Wisdom is the oldest known wild bird, at least 64 years old. She was first banded in 1956, and scientists have continued to replace her band as needed in order to continue tracking her. Because of these efforts, it’s estimated that she’s traveled over six million ocean miles in her lifetime! She’s also raised as many as 36 chicks since she was first banded. You can learn more about Wisdom on the US Fish & Wildlife Service’s website by clicking here. Isn’t she cute?
