Joining a team of editors who have outstanding backgrounds in both birding and gardening is a tad intimidating for someone like me. After all, I’m a recent college grad who’s never quite owned my own backyard (until now), and who has little experience with identifying birds.
I do, however; have a strong journalistic background, with a passion and knowledge of all things digital.
If I haven’t lost you yet, here’s what I’m getting at: I’d like to be the first to welcome you all to the brand new Birds & Blooms blog, where a mix of experts, editors and even social media enthusiasts like me will give you insights into gardening & birding for your very own backyard, digitally.
So please, join us, the editors of Birds & Blooms, as we share with you the latest happenings at the magazine (and more). Then, be sure to choose the state you live in, where your very own backyard chick will give you helpful advice for your region.
We look forward to sharing our thoughts with you!

I’m so excited about this blog. I’ve always learned the most from listening to others’ experiences and sharing with a group.

I love the idea of blogs for each section of the country. But I live in Virginia, where I woke up to ice on my birdbath and I still have nary a bloom in my yard! I’m in the ‘midatlantic’ section…not the Southeast and not the Northeast. Where can I look on your blogs for a place like me?!
I have a garden blog, it’s called Thanks For Today. You can visit at:

Are you thinking about adding a Midatlantic blog? If so, I’m available:-)
Thanks,
Jan Doble
