Video: See the Red Belly of a Red-Bellied Woodpecker

Leica logoWe have a new partnership with Leica Sport Optics that we’re really excited about! The Leica optics reps have always been really great with us when we go to bird festivals, and now we’re partnering with them to bring some of their videos from the field directly to you!

Since we spend a lot of our days in the office, we’re not always out in the field. This is where Leica comes into play. They are out there bird-watching all the time. And they take some pretty amazing photos and videos that we know you’d love to see. We’ll be featuring those photos and videos right here on the blog, as well as the Birds & Blooms iPad edition!

For our first video, I pulled a video from Leica’s rep, Jeff Bouton. It shows the red belly of a red-bellied woodpecker! Many people find it difficult to see the red belly of this bird, and they even question the name. But this video clearly shows the bird’s red belly. It’s very cool to see. Thanks again to Leica Sport Optics for sharing. Go give them a “like” on Facebook to support our new partnership, and look for more videos to be posted soon!

fascinating! Red Bellied Woodpeckers are one of my favorite birds. We have at least one family that we know of in our yard and see them often at our suet feeders.

Thank you so much for sharing your “Family” video!

I have a pair of the red belly and I think they are so beautiful. They come everyday and I have many pictures of them.

Coincidentally, I saw the red belly of the one that visits my feeder two days ago. It happened when he was reaching around the feeder, just like the one in the video.

I see the Red-bellied just about every day, but this morning was the first time I had seen the red bellie. I took a double look. Usually have my camera ready but he flew before I had it in my hand.

Super!! We have a pair visit our suet every day & they were nesting in our tree but an ice storm took the tree out.Sure hope they pick another one in our yard . I had never seen their red belly before, thanks!!

Great video. We are fortunate to have a pair here in our yard located in China Grove, NC. I’ve also spotted a Red Headed woodpecker visiting.
During the colds months we put our feed and suet cakes on our back deck rails. The birds are a beautiful site to watch and our cats have a wonderful time watching from the closed patio door.
