Although it’s still August, many warblers have started their fall migration already. I’ve seen reports from all over the US of the first migrants moving through. Many researchers are already banding fall migrants as well.
Some birders don’t pay as much attention in the fall because the warblers are less colorful overall. For me, I love fall warbler migration! Since the adult birds are joined by many youngsters, there are so many more birds moving though. Since some of the birds will be less colorful and harder to identify, I suggest you study a bit before trying to identify them. The best thing you can do is get a copy of The Warbler Guide! This book covers pretty much everything you should look for when identifying warblers!
Here are a few species I hope to see this fall!
