What is the Bird Day Challenge?
During International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 10, Birds & Blooms Editor Stacy Tornio and I will participate in a head-to-head bird competition. We will be at The Biggest Week in American Birding and will spend 3 hours, trying to see as many bird species as possible.
The winning team gets $500 for their charity of choice. I chose to bird for Black Swamp Bird Observatory in Oak Harbor, Ohio. If my team wins, BSBO will receive $500 from Birds & Beans coffee, our challenge sponsor (the runner-up will receive $250). BSBO’s mission is to inspire the appreciation, enjoyment and conservation of birds and their habitats through research, education and outreach. They do all sorts of amazing things for the birds and bird education.
Who is on Team Kirsten?
It was really tough choosing a team. The majority of the team has to get eyes on the bird in order for it to count. Let me introduce you to #TeamKirsten2014. If you must, check out Stacy’s team, too–our competition!
You could win, too!
