Well, it’s official. The Birds and Blooms’ blog is live today!! I’m so excited to be blogging as the Midwest Regional Reporter and getting to know fellow gardeners and birders!
Today is a glorious, sunny day in Minnesota. This time of year, we trade sunshine for warmth—-sun usually means colder temperatures, but I’ll take it. 🙂
Birds: We have a young downy woodpecker from last year’s brood that has made our feeders his primary feeding source. He’s pretty funny to watch and he seems to be constantly at our suet feeder. He even “rests” there – we’ll see him just hanging upside down, very still, almost seems to be napping. It’s funny. One such day when he was lingering, I snapped these photos of him.

Garden: I’m so anxious for spring. I can hardly wait to have my morning coffee and walk around my yard. To brighten up my days and to be reminded that blooms are not far away, I forced a hyacinth bulb indoors – gorgeous. This was my first attempt at forcing a bulb indoors. It was so beautiful and fragrant that I will definitely be forcing more next winter.
