For me, one of the birding highlights of the winter is participating in Christmas Bird Counts (CBC) which will be occurring over the next couple weeks. Not only is it fun, but this bird count is important for understanding bird populations. During these counts, birders of all skill levels join together to count birds within their assigned count circles. There are circles all over the US, Canada, and in many other locations throughout North and South America. The count is organized by National Audubon Society and has been going on since 1900.
You can find a circle near you or explore all of the counts on this interactive map. Will you be participating in a CBC this winter? If so, where?
