Spring break is just around the corner, and Orlando is a popular destination for people of all ages. While the theme parks offer plenty of beautiful landscaping and flowers, garden lovers should be sure to make time to visit the Harry P. Leu Gardens, just off I-4 on the northeast side of town.
Leu Gardens was established in 1951 “to inspire people to appreciate and understand plants, the environment of Central Florida, and the Gardens’ historic significance”. At the center of the property is the Leu home, built as a farmhouse in 1888, now meticulously restored and available for daily tours (except July). Surrounding the home are 50 acres of southern gardens, including America’s third largest Camellia collection and the largest formal rose garden in Florida. Visitors strolling the landscaped paths will also find vegetable and herb gardens, palm and cycad gardens, and a butterfly garden. The gardens also host art exhibits and offer a gift shop with a large selection of Florida gardening books.

Oh – I was just in Orlando! I was in and out for a conference – sure wish I could have stayed a couple of extra days to visit this garden. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy the hotel’s gardens – they were magnificent and just what a Minnesota girl needed…sunshine and blooming flowers! 🙂

What a beautiful garden! I have heard about this garden from a fellow blogger and both yours and her photos are just stunning. I do hope that I will be able to visit this beautiful garden someday 🙂

The theme parks of Florida hold no appeal to me. But I love finding new places that showcase the natural beauty of the state when I come down to visit my mom. She lives outside of Tampa on the Gulf coast and I’ve discovered some amazing wildlife gardens just dripping with butterflies.

Carole – I’m in Tampa, too. I do a lot of volunteer time at the butterfly garden at MOSI, the science museum. Let me know the next time you’re in town – I’ll give you a tour!
