As our regular readers probably already know, I travel a lot to look for birds. It’s one of the big perks of owning a tour company and leading birding tours. Although I love to travel, it’s still always nice to be home watching the birds in my backyard. I recently returned from several weeks away from home. Activity in my yard has certainly increased since I left in mid-summer.
While sitting on my porch each morning, I’m greeted by the wonderful bird song that happens at the start of each day. Robins, cardinal, chickadees, and many others move through the yard looking for their first meal. The robins have been particularly interesting as the young birds have been very active.
There have also been more hummingbirds around than when I left. No matter what time of day I look out the window, there seems to be at least one feeding. Hopefully, I’ll be seeing even more as migration progresses.
It also shouldn’t be long until I see my first warbler of the fall in my yard. I’ve been out looking for one this morning but unfortunately, no luck so far. I did however find an Eastern Phoebe!
What birds have you been seeing in your backyard?
