This morning I birded for a couple of hours with my brother at our favorite local park, Eagle Creek. It is the largest park in Indianapolis and is one of the largest city parks in the country. Eagle Creek has been the favorite park for many Indianapolis area birders for years. Spring migration can be phenomenal in the park, and the winter birding can be pretty good as well. Just like most parks, if you put in a little time and effort, there can be many awesome birds to see.
This morning started off with a little bit of feeder watching where I photographed a couple of the common feeder birds at the park, Northern Cardinal and American Tree Sparrow.
The rest of the morning was spent hiking though the freshly fallen snow. Our efforts were rewarded with great views of a Winter Wren and several Purple Finches! We were the first people to hike through the 4 inches of snow that fell yesterday, and it was wonderful to walk through such a beautiful, untouched snowy scene.
