I’ve been riding my bike as much as I can since the beginning of the year as part of a fund raiser for my local food bank. My goal is to ride 2011 miles in 2011, with people pledging a penny a mile. It’s been a lot of fun so far, but lately my mileage has been dipping, partly owing to it being the busy season at school, and partly owing to some wicked spring windstorms. Today was a fairly pretty day, however – cool, but with light winds around 18-20 mph – and since I’d worked all weekend on school stuff, I decided to take some time off and get on the bike at lunch.
There’s a prairie dog town along my regular route, and it looks like three burrowing owls have taken up residence there this year. This one consistently has been in a dog hole close to the road, and has shown little concern when I ride by. So today I wedged a point and shoot digital camera with a telephoto lens in one of my bottle holders and set out with a photo shoot in mind.
He was very cooperative, though I think he must have found me odd, lying in the street in my cycling kit, trying to hold the camera steady in the wind.
