Welcome to the Southeast Region section of the Birds & Blooms Blog! Here you’ll find information about gardening, birding, and wildlife watching in the following states:
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- West Virginia
It’s a pretty big region, including USDA hardiness zones 6 – 10 and environments from mountains to seashore and everything in between. When folks in Florida are weeding vegetable gardens in shorts, people in Northern Virginia may be shoveling snow and dreaming over seed catalogs. This gives us plenty of topics to explore in this blog, and I look to you as readers to help identify those that will be most interesting to you.
Each week, a variety of posts will provide information about events, projects, and topics of interest to those in Southeast. Regular weekly features include Focus on Natives (weekends), which will take a look at the flora and fauna that make the Southeast so special; Places to Go, Things to Do (Tuesdays), a look at upcoming events or sites worth a visit; and Working for the Weekend (Thursdays), which will provide project ideas and help with chores for the weekend ahead. Other posts could include answers to reader questions, links to articles or websites you might find interesting, and general updates on the state of things in the Southeast.
What’s most important to me is finding out what you, the reader, want to see featured here. You can help by dropping a line in the comments anytime you think of a topic you’d like to know more about, or an event you think people might enjoy. I’ll be reading your comments regularly, so please let me know how we’re doing and what Birds & Blooms can do to make your experience even better.
This blog is for anyone who loves flowers, birds, butterflies, and gardens – in short, this blog is for you. Drop by often, and share your own thoughts and experiences when you can. Shakespeare said, “One touch of nature makes the whole world kin,” and this blog is a place for Southeastern gardening “kin” to explore and learn together. Welcome!
