Can you smell it? Spring is in the air and I am so ready to get out into my garden.
To help you enjoy the most of being out in your garden this spring, there are many different gardening events going on all around the Southwest this month. Here is just a sampling….
The Desert Botanical Garden’s Plant Sale takes place March 19th and 20th. A huge variety of arid-adapted plants will be available for sale. Horticulturists and volunteers will be available to answer your gardening questions. The Garden Boutique will also have many different items for your garden for sale as well. San Diego’s Botanic Garden will be hosting their annual Herb Festival, Spring Plant Sale and Tomatomania(r) on March 19th and 20th. Learn how to grow herbs and tomatoes in California’s Mediterranean climate. Then stop by the plant sale to pick up some new plants for your garden. Learn how to care for your trees and shrubs at this workshop offered by the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas. The workshops are held every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 – 12:00 and topics such as how to select your new trees and shrubs, fertilizing and how to best care for them. Take your kids to the Green Connection at the Garden during spring break on March 17th at Albuquerque BioPark. Kids will learn about the life plants, from their beginning as a seed until they are fully grown. Have you ever considered raising chickens in your backyard? It is surprisingly fun to do and fresh eggs are an added bonus. Learn how to select and raise chickens at the Utah Botanical Center’s Backyard Chickens workshop on March 26th from 9:00 – 10:00.
