We are having a birdathon on May 9, International Migratory Bird Day, during The Biggest Week in American Birding festival in Ohio. Editor Stacy Tornio and Senior Editor Kirsten Sweet will compete (along with their fantastic teams) to see who can spot the most birds in only three hours!
You can learn more about Stacy’s team here. They are birding for Black Swamp Bird Observatory, organizers of The Biggest Week in American birding festival.
You can learn more about Kirsten’s team here. They are birding for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Birds & Blooms will donate $750 to the winning team’s charity and $250 to the runner-up. But we could still use your help in raising funds for these wonderful organizations. Support one or both teams via our Crowdrise page.
We’d like to give a special thanks to Birds Choice™, our contest sponsors. They will be giving away three bird-feeding prize packages consisting of an Oriole Feeder, Finch Feeder and a Recycled Hanging Fly-Thru Feeder, all made in the US. Birds Choice™ makes amazing bird products like the ones pictured here, and they also make birdhouses, baths and more. To be eligible to win, just click to enter below. Plus, share about the Bird Day Challenge on social media to earn extra entries!

I am a subscriber to Birds & Blooms, and enjoy it immensely. Taking pictures of the birds at our few “feeding stations” is rewarding. I would LOVE to win a Bird Feeding Prize Pack to add to my yard for the many birds that are native, as well as those that are migrating.

love watching birds we just saw a Falcon 2 weeks ago on the Balcony which we were surprised to see this early in the year there was still snow on the ground and it was very cold out it was a very beautiful bird my cat just stared at it and we kept going to the door to see it and it did not move it was a very bold bird and the hook of a beak that Falcon has my god i would not want to have that or it’s claws in my hands! but after awhile it decided to fly away but that’s the first time we ever saw the most beautiful bird that up close and in person in a long time!

This is the first winter where we have seen several eagles flying around our country side. On one of the main roads, off away in the trees. You can see one of their nest. They are such an awesome bird to watch while flying.

I just recently subscribed to Birds & Blooms. I am in a garden Club and I am familiar with the magazine. I really like the do it yourself projects. We also feed the birds and enjoy watching them out our patio doors. We live in the woods so it is teaming with lots of animals to watch. The relationships the in the wild are just downright captivating!!. I have lots of flowers and such to attract the birds and bees. Ha Ha. Jennifer

I have been receiving Birds & Blooms for years. Not only do I enjoy it personally, I use it in my job. I work in the field of geriatric care and Birds & Blooms is my “go-to” visual aid for working with Alzheimer’s patients. The vivid colors of nature often transcend the mental fog of Alzheimer’s. And, the articles are wonderful starting points for shared reminiscing among my more cognitive seniors.

I really enjoy this magazine. It’s the first one I read. It has something for everyone. I share it a lot with friends. And the photo’s are beautiful. It’s nice to read what everyone see’s and does in different parts of the country. It makes you feel like your there. Keep up the good work! Even if sometimes I can never find that pinecone. I did find the hummingbird!

Just love your magazine and enjoy the many articles and suggestions. Do have trouble getting to a specific place on the web site….like “you don’t say”. The April/May issue had a cute picture of a seal and a cormorant along the coast of San Diego. I would ha offered “scratch a little bit lower please” but could not get the page to do so.
I will stay with the paper magazine. Thanks

I have been a long time subscriber to Birds and Blooms as well as Birds and Blooms Extra and have gathered so much knowledge and information from both magazines. Our family has been avid Bird watchers and have several feeders in our yard and look forward to all of the different varieties that visit every day.
Virginia Trostle says
We feed our birds year round and enjoy watching their antics and some rivalry. The colorful Cardinals bring a little sunshine when it is dreary. We have counted as many as 15 different birds in just a couple of days. We put out Hummingbird feeders in end of April for early passers-by. We always keep binoculars in our kitchen close to most used feeders and in our car & truck for those birds to check off our life lists. Happy birding!!
Lori Scherr says
My mom always had beautiful flowers and lots of bird feeders when I was growing up. So that is the first thing I did when I bought my house was plant a lot of flowers and put up some bird feeders and houses. My daughter also has pots of flowers on her apt balcony. I love to sit on the patio reading Birds & Blooms and watching the birds in my back yard.
