Homemade Bird Feeder for Kids

Get kids interested in birding with this colorful and easy DIY bird feeder.

This easy DIY bird feeder comes from reader Karen Homer of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Karen notes, “My daughter, Charli, loved choosing and stringing the beads. She was very proud of her creation.”

Materials:

  • Old window screen or new mesh screen from a craft store
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Hooks for attaching and hanging
  • String or wire
  • Beads

Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1

Press the screen into the embroidery hoop and trim the excess.

Step 2

Attach the hooks to the hoop and tie the wire or string to the hooks.

Step 3

String the beads over the wire and tie it off at the top. Attach another hook for hanging.

Step 4

Fill with birdseed and hang where kids can watch for feathered visitors!
