Just Dew It!

Look closely there's more to these photos than first meets the eye.

Photos by Steve Terrill

On dewy mornings, it's not unusual to see Steve Terrill stretched out flat on his stomach in his garden. In fact, his neighbors in Portland, Oregon have come to expect it.

They know that Steve, a talented photographer, is busy taking close-up photos of tiny dewdrops...and the miniature "landscapes" locked inside them.

"It's something I stumbled onto a few years ago while picking up the morning paper," Steve recalls. "There was a lot of dew on the grass, and the closer I got, the more I noticed the tiny reflections inside each drop."

Picture Perfect

Steve got his camera and snapped a near-perfect picture of the images within the drops.

"For years, I tried to duplicate it, but I just couldn't get it right," he says. "Finally, 5 or 6 years later, I tried once more and got it!"

Since then, Steve has perfected his technique. Some of his fascinating photographs are shown here.

"People pass dewdrops every morning and don't even notice them," he says with a grin. "But there's a whole universe down there. It really opened my eyes."
