Biggest Makeover Mistake
This reader's arbor mistake was fixed with fishing line!
Made a DIY mistake in the backyard? Turn lemons into lemonade says Barbara Criddle of Seattle, Washington, whose "Budget Backyard Makeover" is featured in the March/April Backyard Living.
"I decided that an arbor for clematis and climbing roses would look appealing at the start of our slate walkway," Barbara explains. "Rather than buy it, George made a structure according to my specifications. Unfortunately, I didn't do my research. The 2 x 2 cross pieces were too big for clematis tendrils to grip.
"Not willing to toss it, I strung heavy-duty fishing line up and down the cross pieces so the clematis could climb-the end result is delightful."
