Compact Solution
I make a lot of suet, so I needed to come up with a better system for storing it in the freezer. My solution was to use cylindrical oatmeal containers with plastic lids.
After I mix my suet, I form it into cakes on top of the lids, about 1 inch deep and 4 1/2 inches wide. I stack several layers of cakes with a lid between each cake and press them tightly together. Then I place the stack in the freezer until all the layers are completely frozen. Finally, I remove the lids, put the suet cakes in the oatmeal container and store them in the freezer until I need them.
These suet stacks also make great gifts. I just add a decorative label, and they're perfect for bird lovers. —Judy Arbuckle, Shelton, Washington
