- Family: Finch.
- Length: 8-1/4 inches.
- Wingspan: 12-1/2 inches.
- Distinctive Markings: Males have black head, brownish-orange underparts and bicolored bill; black and white tail and white wing patches. Female is brown with striped head, back and sides.
- Nest: In dense outer foliage of tree or shrub.
- Song: Whistled warble, faster, higher and choppier than the rose-breasted.
