"Using a simple band saw and basic hand tools, this redwood birdhouse took me 6 months to construct," writes Richard Gorthy of San Ramon, California. "It's a model of the one-room Tassajara schoolhouse in our area. I furnished the inside of the birdhouse with old-fashioned desks, bookshelves, a blackboard and a potbellied stove. Forty miniature daffodils adorn the outside, representing the hundreds that bloom on the school's grounds each spring."
