Red acrylic paint
Flat paintbrush
8-in.-square piece of mesh
Scrap of chipboard or cardboard
Dry scrapbook adhesive or glue dots
Butterfly stickers (optional)
STEP 1. Clean jar and lid thoroughly. Unscrew band from jar and remove insert.
STEP 2. Base-coat lid band with primer paint and let dry.
STEP 3. Base-coat lid band with acrylic paint, applying as many coats as needed for full coverage and letting dry between coats.
STEP 4. Trace inner and outer lid band rings onto chipboard or cardboard. Cut out shape. This will form an open circle shape that fits snugly inside the lid band. Trace shape again and cut out second matching open circle.
STEP 5. Center the mesh square between the open circle cutouts. Using scrapbook adhesive or glue dots, adhere the mesh between the circles. Be sure the mesh is smoothed tightly.
STEP 6. Place open circle with mesh into lid band. It should fit snugly, with the mesh covering the open area on the lid. If desired, trim excess mesh.
STEP 7. Screw cap back on jar. If desired, decorate jar with butterfly stickers or other embellishments.
